Doc Tonewheel
The moderators should get this into that section of Keyboard magazine for custom keyboard jobs. This is beautiful!! The companies that build controllers should take note.
Jim Alfredson
Nice work, but I like how people are already asking for changes to the design and the guy hasn't even committed to building any for sale yet. jook
I think it's perfect just the way it is. Fantastic. Would love to see more pics and info on the rig. I recall you said you also build custom sample libraries from the bigger ones... so you must have a truly customized setup. I dig that. Big props. Hobo
Thanks for all the feedback. The beauty of making it this way is that it's truly cusomisable for each setup. For example I didn't include pitch / mod wheels because I never use them. I'm a rhodes / wurly / piano / organ / bass player so don't need them. It'd be very easy to add them though. The bottom keyboard started off as an 88 and the top was a 61 but I wanted a shorter board and a lighter board. I decided to start on D as I play a lot of LH bass and that's the range I play in. Any length is possible though. As for the controls, they are all sending out standard MIDI data. I use the sliders as drawbars, the knobs for volume, overdrive, tremelo etc, and the buttons for leslie control, patch change etc. Once I've finished my next build I shall probably setup a website so if anyone would like me to make one that should be possible. I love doing this stuff!
DanS
...or at least not be so cack-handed! I don't know what that means exactly. However, I'm not sure you can say that on a family forum. jook
Where do you actually place the Mac part of it at a live setup? At your feet? On top of an amp or something?
DanS
Where do you actually place the Mac part of it at a live setup? At your feet? On top of an amp or something? Hobo
I put the mac on top of it's case, on the floor by my feet. Mini leslie - that'd be cool!
Dave Pierce
This is awesome. I've wanted something like that for a long time. Have you thought about incorporating drawbars at all? --Dave Make my funk the P-funk. I wants to get funked up. Hobo
I was going to use drawbars but they cost quite a bit more than standard slider pots. I still might fit them in though. However I'm getting used to the sliders - we'll see!
