Gruuve
Actually, I have thought about just doing a bridge pickup only plus a really flexible preamp/EQ...but I do actually like the flexibility that having a neck pickup brings (sometimes a P-bass-ish sound is simply the right tone, ya know? This happens quite a bit in church...our music pastor is a big Sting/Police fan). Plus, the cancellation between pickups when they are blended is quite fascinating to me (although I'd rather engineer it to have certain characteristics rather than relying on a guess or trial and error, or conventional knowledge). I really, REALLY like the idea of getting the body routed the whole span from bridge to neck so that I can experiment with pickup placement...pickups attach with 4 screws, it'll be quite easy to move things around to experiment, then secure them to the right spot once I find it. And, like I said, I was planning to put a "ramp" on it anyway...I'll just make multiple ramps to cover the cavity between pickups, no big deal.
