The Geoff
Alex Harvey (Sensational Alex Harvey Band - although he only sang with this band, he was an exceptionally competent guitarist, playing guitar in the tour band of 'HAIR' in the UK for 4 years) http://youtube.com/watch?v=lQoM9O0c-h8&feature=related Leslie Harvey (Stone The Crows) Yup, Alex's wee brother on guitar - would have been in the Page/Clapton class had he lived. And just put 'Maggie Bell' into YT and see what comes out..... G. Mudcat
I'd like to add WEBB WILDER and his lead guitarist TOM COMET...if ya ever get a chance to see them they are incredible!!!! Also JOHN HYATT, a great songwriter!!! I haven't heard Tom Comet (it's been a LONG time since I've seen Webb perform). I can add Webb's original guitarist, Donnie "the Twangler" Roberts, to the list of often overlooked guitar players. I used to occasionally loan him an amp to run his rig in stereo. Donnie is one of the few guitarists I can point to and say, "yeah, I try to exactly cop his licks." I never quite succeeded. LOL Here is my usual "personal favorites" list of unsung/overlooked guitarists: Drake Levin, Paul Revere and the Raiders Zal Yanovsky, the Lovin' Spoonful Jeff Carlisi, 38 Special Jack Pearson, Jack Pearson Band, Jimmy Hall, the Nationals, occasional Allman Brothers Band member Mudcat's music on Soundclick "Work hard. splitting hare
The last time I saw Webb play was in '91. Great show! Yeah, I always liked The Twangler! Horror Hayride remains one of my favorites. Guitarzannie
Here is my usual "personal favorites" list of unsung/overlooked guitarists: Drake Levin, Paul Revere and the Raiders Zal Yanovsky, the Lovin' Spoonful I have them on my list too. One of my local heroes is a guy I know whose name is Mark. He has been playing for about 35 years, but in the past few years he has been playing even though he has Parkinson's disease. He told me that playing guitar actually helps him with the Parkinson's disease because it somehow helps him control the shakes by focusing on his playing. Guitarzannie
About 8 months now. I've been taking lessons for about a year now, so I think I know how you feel. Sometimes I feel that those who have never taken up guitar have no clue as to the work that goes into learning how to play guitar. In that respect, it's nice to have a forum to come to where people remember what it's like to be a newbie.
