...
About 7 minutes in the bass player (Neil Jason) take a solo. Pretty cool. I've never heard of him before. Smonkin' version of this classic tune. Makes me yearn for the days when I was in a band that played this song nightly.
Bottomgottem
That band kicked butt. I did a little sniffing. It seems that Neil Jason played bass on Roxy Music's Avalon and Flesh + Blood albums, as well as Bryan Ferry's 1st solo album. He also may have worked with Cyndi Lauper. My whole trick is to keep the tune well out in front. If I play Tchaikovsky, I play his melodies and skip his spiritual struggle. ~Liberace
_Sweet Willie_
I like the hat and overalls. He does rip on the tune. Peace.--SW spreadluv Fanboy? Why, yes! Nordstrand Pickups and Guitars. Messiaen knew how to parlay the funk.
Big Daddy from Motown
He's got chops but I must admit it doesn't move me at all. It doesn't seem funky to me just busy.
Chad Thorne
I always SSF was kind of a busy, chops-y tune anyway, never liked it. They sho' do got the chops, though!

Phil W
Neil Jason played on John McLaughlin's Electric Guitarist too. http://philwbass.com
Phil W
He certainly added his own personality to the track. He's been around the session scene forever: check this discography - http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/music/artist/appears/0,,448801,00.html Personally I preferred his ensemble bass work to the solo. http://philwbass.com
Phil W
And he plays on some Brecker Brothers CD in my collection - was it Heavy Metal Bebop? http://philwbass.com
...
Good one, Phil. He's listed as playing on Heavy Metal Bebop and Detente. That's a very impressive list of work on that linked site. And I agree that his ensemble playing was more interesting than the solo he took in Skunk Funk.
