Blue JC
Last night, I saw one of the most perfect examples of how to accompany a great artist on the piano: Kathryn Stott, Piano and Yo-Yo Ma, Cello. Program · Schubert : Arpeggione Sonata in a minor, D. 821 · Shostakovich : Sonata in d minor, Op. 40 (1934) · Piazzolla : Le Grand Tango (1982) · Gismonti : Bodas de Prata & Quatro Cantos · Franck : Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano (trans.) (1886) They did three encores - all Piazzolla Tangos from Ma's incredible (and highly recommended) tango album. Kathryn Stott is one of the most unselfish and sensitive accompanist that I have ever seen. Her facility at the Piano is world-class and yet she never overwhelmed the Cello, in spite of the fact that many of these pieces have extended sections in the lower register of the Piano and the concert hall was magnifying the lower frequencies out of all proportion. They are on tour now and I highly recommend this concert. Best, JC Everybody's got to believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer. W. C. Gismo Recording
Wow. That sounds really great. Unfortunately the closest the tour is coming to me is Washington, DC on Monday night. DC is too far to go for a concert when I have to work the next day. Ken Denny Gismo Recording So Cliché
Dave Ferris
I have her "Complete Recordings of Gabriel Faure' ". That's some pretty thorny stuff...the recording is on one of my favorite classical labels, Hyperion. Great recording and playing! I also have a recording of her doing some Chopin Nocturnes. If you go to her site she has quite an impressive discography. Another great accompanist is Warren Jones. I attended one of his masterclasses at USC a few years back. He's the #1 go to guy for a lot of the singers. GREAT pianist and musician, down to earth guy and a very humble cat considering his status in the classical world. https://soundcloud.com/dave-ferris https://www.youtube.com/@daveferris2709 2005 NY Steinway D Yamaha AvantGrand N3X, CP88, P515
keysplease
Remember the Episode of Seinfeld in which Kramer suffers some sort of injury, and uncontrollably blurts "Yo Yo Ma!" during conversations?
