outlawlebo Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 heyy everybody, i need some advice on buying a new guitar.. iv been playing for around 4 years and the music i play is like a blues reggae jazzy type of thing. I was looking at some fender telecasters which i rather fancied.... my price range is at most $2500 (Australian).... also im left handed. what do you guys think i should be looking at or what type of guitar would suit me best. cheers "There is more stupidity in the universe than hydrogen , and it has a longer shelf life ." - Frank Zappa
picker Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Get a Strat. They are more versatile than a Tele, and should easily cover the styles you want to play. They make lefties, and I think you should be able to afford a good one on that budget. Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
Dr. Ellwood Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Yes I agree with Picker on this, a Strat will cover everything you are doing. I'm not sure on the $2500.00 conversion from AUS to US but it sure would seem you could make a good deal on the Strat. Good luck and check back in and tell us how your shopping goes! and how you like the Strat!! http://www.thestringnetwork.com
The Big G Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 a left handed one !!!! sorry as ellwood and picker have said you cant go far wrong with a strat Love life, some twists and turns are more painful than others, but love life..... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=592101
A String Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Another vote for the Strat here. A very versatile instrument. Head over to the local music store and try a few out. Craig Stringnetwork on Facebook String Network Forum My Music

mdrs Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 If you can find a used Mexican Strat, they are a great deal, generally. You might get one cheap enough, that you could consider putting some cool handwound pick ups in it. The lefty thing will make it a bit tougher, I'd think. I'll speak for Pappy.....you need MORE COW BELL! Don Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. Bluesape Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Strat - hands down the most versatile guitar on Earth. Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
The Big G Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 well a strat seems most popular but I am sure somebody else thinks different Come Pappy give us an alternative......... caprae Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 According to my calculator you're looking at $1800+ in U.S. dollars. You can buy a whole lot of guitar for that. Heck, you can buy the parts - Warmoth, etc. - and build your own to your specs. Raise your children and spoil your grandchildren. Spoil your children and raise your grandchildren.
Guitarzan Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 for the dough, a Godin LGXT would be the one. it does it all. dual humbuckers 5 way switch, peizo for accoustic sounds and synth access. just do it. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=193274 rock it, i will

evilLordJuju Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I was looking at some fender telecasters which i rather fancied.... If you want a tele get a tele. Bottom line. You (presumably) worked hard for that money - get what YOU like, not what other people like....... If I was into blues and reggae however (I am actually) I would certainly buy a Les Paul though - either a Gibson or Epiphone if you have less cash. A great blues guitar, and I'm sure Bob Marley would have said a great Reggae guitar too check out my guitar sites gibson electric basses | vintage and rare guitars | vintage guitar forum
mdrs Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Outlawlebo...Tele's are awesome axes. I find them a bit demanding on one's technique. I do not mean that they are technically difficult to play. But, I do think that it is tougher to get a sweet sound out of a Tele. However, It is certainly possible to do so. But, I've always felt that a Tele requires a different attack, so to speak. If you play a Tele and it sounds good to you and has the sound you are looking for, I'd buy it! Some people are just made to play a Tele. Also, I've always felt that Tele's like Fender amps..... There are many great guitars. The best approach is to go to a couple of music stores, and play as many as you can. One of them will let you know that it's your guitar.
