  1. iPads booted into a different OS? Did I miss something?
  2. I also owned a Fusion and was surprised how quickly they reduced and then abandoned it. Also, who could really afford an Oasys at that time? It had more potential than was realised. I got similar vibes from the Grandstage which was discontinued quite early in its life with no real replacement, and still doesn’t have one you can buy yet. The incremental updates to the Grandstage X shows just how much the original offered (and still does). Very strange decision by Korg there.
  3. Seven of those I can see why they make a 'top' list, but not at the expense of others. Very strange...
  4. For me, there is affording and justifying. Luckily my income and lifestyle means I could ‘afford’ a flagship every few months without hardship, but as I’m not gigging or earning any money from music, could I justify that? I’m happy to buy a ‘flagship’ PC workstation as that makes me more productive in my job. Also, I’m a Yorkshireman and like a bargain….playing the Kronos 88 I spent several thousand ££ on did not feel like as much as a win as playing a £500 Grandstage or £700 YC61…or even a £100 JDXi. Essentially I like to pick up quality pro gear at hobby prices and, so far, it’s been a good run.
  5. Did you try any of the suggestions above such as turning off mastering assistant and deleting unused recording, freezing tracks etc?
  6. Apple rarely have a blow out if ever. They just reduce or cease production of an item which drives the prices up on the market due to scarcity. The ‘sweet spot’ is when retailers think something is redundant or no longer popular and they have a ‘blow out’. Until they completely cease support for a device, there will always be accessories for it even if they hard to find and/or expensive.
  7. A bit like putting a V8 engine on a tuk tuk. Overkill if you can’t put your foot down and use it. Logic is great, but MainStage is the dream. I see no reason it shouldn’t be on the iPad given how it’s based on Logic and they are pushing it as a music performance and recording device. That with my existing apps sounds like the perfect setup.
  8. Quite a few tips here I can try to avoid the lag, thanks. On a side note, while looking to ‘clean up’ my mac, I discovered remnants of the Rhodes V8 trial and some GarageBand content was well over 30gb of my system data despite no applications being installed. That’s gone now along with a load of free plugins I never used.
  9. Bit of a quandary for Apple. They have tablets with more power than their laptops, but refuse to give them a more professional OS as it would effectively impact their laptop sales. If an M4 iPad had a full OS and you added the Magic Keyboard, you would have a MacBook Pro with detachable screen. Yet what to do with all that power……
  10. I’m certainly not a beats guy, but I found the session players to be more trad/rock, I just need to get my head around how to input reference data. With the drummers I can choose one of my ‘played’ tracks such as piano for reference. Tried the same with the keys and bass players and it all sounded terrible. Pretty sure I’m doing it wrong, but I won’t be using the keys players beyond a little dabble to see what it can do. Now, bass I would like to get right.
  11. How are you finding the new studio sounds? The bass sounds very realistic, and I am quite impressed with the new Studio Piano.
  12. I never doubted what it could do, just never needed many of the features that justified its high price tag. Grandstage and iPad gives me much of the Korg bits I wanted at a much lower price. Korg Collection and Logic goes beyond what it offers sonically, but I understand that’s not the same as an ‘all in one’ board.
  13. Have you noticed that Module got the Oasys piano recently and that Korg Collection is getting the EP-1 and Vox engines from the Kronos? Maybe they are testing the waters for further Kronos engines, maybe adding them to Gadget at some point to make something akin to a software Kronos. That or an awesome new flagship workstation in the works. Nautilus felt like a bit of a downgrade from Kronos….
  14. I just read about the Crtl I to disable Rosetta, will try that. Sorry if it wasn’t clear, meant midi input lag when playing internal instruments from an external keyboard. Perfect at first, gets worse as the ‘song’ develops. At one point, so bad it sounded like a ping pong delay. Only noticed since upgrading to Logic Pro 11 and mastering assistant was already in Pro X…
  15. I thought it only did that when you first run it as there is an option to ‘reanalyse’ afterwards. Will try disabling it next time and see the results. Can’t recall if the lag crept in before I ran it as I tend to do it last. Im pretty sure M1 is more than capable and that 8gb is capable of handling such a few tracks.
  16. Never gigged at any sort of level that requires a flagship board since such a thing became the standard. I have had two Kronos’ but never needed half the features so went with the Grandstage as those were the bits I needed. Same with Roland and Yamaha gear, either picked up a top model cheap, or went with lesser models (FA-06, Korg Krome, JD-Xi etc, Moog Subsequent etc). had a few ‘flagship’ Yamaha stage pianos but that’s because I wanted a quality keybed and piano sounds.
  17. Are you limited to the zen core sounds you can download, or just the number you can have (1000)? I need to do some research, but always better to hear from someone who actually owns one.
  18. They looked a bargain when I first posted. Not for me, but good to be able to give some credible advice to friends and family.
  19. Starting a new topic as there is lots of talk about new features in the Logic thread. Anyway, updated to Logic 11 and opened my last track. Keyboard lag from the Grandstage was unbearable. Tried changing latency settings in audio and ‘low latency monitoring’ in recording but no good. Decided a new track was the way to go and voila, no lag at all. As I built up a track the lag crept back in, and by the end is was getting bad again. Tried with my Keystage and the same. Bear in mind this was just eight tracks but included one drum session track, the studio piano and studio bass with Chromaglow on the drums as well as the mastering mode activated. Watched the activity monitor and there was no real stress on the CPU. So, I’m wondering if there is some bug in the new version (never had lag before), if the AI stuff is just causing this and if an M1 with 8gb is up to the job now. I only ever fire up the Mac mini to use with Logic once in a while so don’t really want to upgrade if there are any settings or tweaks to improve this, I don’t believe the M2 is a substantial upgrade anyway…that just leaves a 16gb upgrade I guess. Anyone else noticed similar issues in Logic 11?
  20. Is that to evaluate which suits your needs, or do you expect to use both. Are all the Zencore sounds available for these?
  21. Finally had a play. Definitely had fun with drummers, but bass and keyboards were all over the place. I need to lay down simpler chord based tracks for them to analyse. Chromaglow really brought the drum sounds out, but I found it easier to play bass and keyboards in myself. Old habits and all that...plus I like to think I have my own style so AI keys not really getting used beyond trying them out.
  22. Not worth that sort of price, especially the 61 with that keybed. I paid £900 for my first YC61, £700 for the second and couldn't live with the clacky keybed on either. Shame as the rest of the board is great.
  23. Not really a direct comparison. One has a bunch of sliders and pads etc. the other is Midi 2.0 with oled displays, poly AT keybed and an audio interface.
  24. Imagine your 23 year old self wandering into a studio, being asked to casually jam on some tracks, laying down riffs on some of the most recognised tunes in rock history, hanging around for a few days breaking in a brand new Fender Rhodes, getting the roadies to cart in your B3 then being asked to become the fifth member of the band which just happened to be one of the biggest and greatest in the world at that point. Yeah, beyond a dream, not a bad gig for Billy though.
  25. Curious what you hope to see in an update other than bug fixes. Not sure if the sounds can be added to like the YC.
