  1. Hi guys

    I’ve recently bought 2 x Roland Fantom XR’s

1 for leaving in my touring rack and other for home use

1 of them is a 2004 model, it only has version 1.00 software on it, but its had a recent new LCD screen on it by the previous owner…

(it’s the bottom one in the picture)

the other one is a 2007 model but has original screen and works fine but a little bit dim compared to the new screen model, it has version 2.02 firmware

just wondered if there is anyone on here that could loan me the XR Expansion card to upgrade one of my units?  See picture

  2. Hi Folkks

I’m based in Swindon in Wiltshire In the UK 🇬🇧 I have a Yamaha Motif ES7 which needs a new USB socket fitted on the back and also a smart media card socket, it also needs some keys looking at as they are a bit “noisy and clackety” sounding.. I have all the genuine replacement parts from Yamaha Germany that are needed, bought from a tech guy who got them and was supposed to be fitting them, but I’ve been messed about too many times and I can’t keep driving 150 miles to Northampton and back to turn up and he’s not there when agreed!

He is now sending me all the parts, Also have a Roland Fantom X8 which needs some new key felts and the plastic cage that each octave sits in, I have all the parts for this…

is there anyone near me that can do the fixing?

Sick of being messed about and driving a billion miles!

One of the studios I record at has one in-house for keys. They are not sturdy. Fine for home/studio use, I wouldn't test it by taking apart and putting together multiple times for gig use.

I probably wouldn't use it on a tall setting. There is a lot of side-to-side wobble, and the wheels don't help with stability.

not sturdy? I’ve heard everybody saying that they are? I’d need to use one at almost its highest setting with my Crumar Mojo Suitcase

  4. very interested in these Liquid stands, the amount of effort in designing them has impressed me, they look super sturdy and I want 2 of the chrome ones with wheels! I’m in the UK 🇬🇧 so can’t get any, have emailed Liquid Stands today as I’d like to show their stands off at my festivals and big shows with my band, they deserve more publicity!

Yes, I own one of these.  My teardown instructions are documented here, should you need them:

My only issue has been a weak design for the lid -- nothing mechanical or electrical.  Please see my PM to you for detailed info.

If you plan to gig with it and/or move it about a lot, I don't personally feel the lid is adequately robust for that; get the wheeled trolley bag for it. :thu:

Hi Brad. I’ve messaged you :)

I have ordered all of this and yep, trolley bag etc are on their way (see image attached)

  6. just sold my Hammond XK-1C last week and made a profit on it after 8 years, i never really connected with the Keybed or sound if I’m honest, it never blew me away…

Now I’m beginning to panic after ordering my new Crumar Mojo suitcase, I’m hearing about lots of poor “quality control” issues and failures on some of their organs (the Suitcase, Classic and Mojo 61) 🤬😵‍💫 thinking about cancelling my order with Thomann in Germany 🇩🇪 (I’m in the UK 🇬🇧) or maybe just waiting till it arrives in 4 weeks time to try it out and take the risk, any issues and it’ll be sent back obviously😔

yes I’m overthinking this (it’s what I do) but come on Crumar! What are you playing at???! 🤷🏻‍♂️why so many problems… whose building these things?? please comment if you’ve had or you haven’t had problems and if you own a Crumar Mojo 🤭😩

  7. Hi guys

I have a Quiklok Z71 stand, the elusive 2nd Tier Quiklok Z2 is impossible to find anywhere! does anyone know if the similar named M2 named 2nd tier attachment will fit onto a Z71 stand ??

if so… anyone got any pics of this or can confirm this?

I have attached the pics of the Z71, the Z2 and M2 attachments 😉

  8. Here is a thread with more valuable feedback on Stay stands. Not all directly responsive to your question about tall players but perhaps still valuable: https://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/3026580/stay-music-stands

Thanks very much, I"m gonna give STAY stands a miss

Because of my height and the fact there is wobbling, not risking that

I"ve had a K&M Spider Pro and that collapsed after 3 years of use

Was only holding my Fantom X8 and Motif ES7, the legs gave way

My stand currently is a Quiklok Z72 in grey, best stand I"ve ever owned

Stable and doesn"t wobble, also have an Ultimate AX90 Which is also great

Looking to find someat else more recent

  9. I have one. It's one of my 137 different attempts to find the perfect stand.

For two boards, it will be too short for you. I am not tall, and have the highest board literally sitting on the top of the stand when I use it. FWIW, visibility is not really a problem because of the angle and the different depths of the arms. But unless you like your boards low, the bottom board in particular would probably be uncomfortably low for you.

FWIW, yeah, boards bounce just a little, as with every column stand. (Though not terrible IMO.) I don't understand why they don't make arms with a small angled extension for these--whatever angle would bring them parallel to the front of the boards. All it would take is a "T" or "L" shape to keep things steady.

One day, when I finally design my own stand...

Thanks mate, I"m definitely going to give it a miss then

I don"t want backache! One days I"m sure there will be a perfect stand for tall people

  10. Hi folks

Thinking of getting a new 2 tier keyboard stand

Will have an 88 note board on the bottom and a 76 note board on the top

Anyone got one of these stands who is tall and stands up when playing? I"m 6ft 3' or 192cm

Didn"t want to order it and find it"s too low for me

I"d obviously have to have the 88 note board fairly high because of my height, therefore possibly obscuring the screen when the top board is above it

If anyone does have this stand, is there any wobbling going on when in use?

it"s this model I"m looking at

  11. Hi guys

just wondered if there was any difference sonically between a Soundcraft E series or the M series?

My current Soundcraft ES desk is on its way out, had it since 2008, never let me down on over 1500 shows

a local guy is selling a mint condition boxed M series, I know it has 4 x Aux sends instead of 2, but wondered if it was a better sounding desk anyway? also another guy selling an Allen & Heath ZED14 in as new condition for around the same price

I"m only gonna be putting my 3 keyboards into my new desk in stereo and sending left and right XLR to FOH from itâ¦

then from the desk running into my Fischer Amps in ear amp 2 for wired in ears on stage

PS - I don"t want a digital deskð I like my current config

    Cheers ð

  12. Zoom emailed me back just now

    Hello Wayne,

thx for your interest in ZOOM products ð

The Q2n4k hast a stereo input and a headphone output.

I would suggest connecting your vocal microphone and your keyboards to a mixer and then sending the master out of your mixer to the Q2n4k line input.

You can then connect your headphones to the q2n4k´s headphone out and voila!

    Regards

    Martin

  13. Hi Mike ðââï¸

I"ve not done any recording before ever

a complete newbie to all this

I"m looking to record myself singing and playing in 1 go and just record the audio from the keyboards and my vocal mic at the same time, it"s just so I can upload stuff to my Facebook and Instagram accounts

I want to wear my Beyerdynamic DT990 Headphones so I can hear everything as I"m doing the above

My neighbours don"t mind my singing, which is all they"ll hear ð¤£

already had compliments on my voice today singing some Billy Joel, Chicago and Christopher Cross songs ðð

I was looking at the Zoom Q2N 4K because I thought maybe I can plug the mixer into that somehow?

Then press record on the Zoom and off we go playing and singing, then it will record all the audio and video

Adjust the volume levels on the zoom so it don"t distort?

    Does the above make sense?

I don"t want to involve a computer at this time reallly

Don"t need to add any additional tracks

I mentioned before about using my iPhone 12 Pro Max alongside the Shure MV88, but obviously this won"t work as it"ll be too loud with everything coming out my speakers and headphones will become irrelevant in that situation, a shame really as the iPhone would give me better video quality than the Zoom and the Shure MV88 would give better audio also

I will say that I do have a Behringer UMC404HD audio interface

It"s still in its box and my brother is coming to help me set that up in about 2 weeks time

  14. Hi Guys

Need advice for someone that is not technically mindedð¤£

So currently at home I have all my keyboards and my vocal mic plugged into a Behringer mixer, all keys in stereo into the desk, my headphones are also plugged into the desk

I want to be able to wear my headphones and sing and play keys but be able to record all of this WITHOUT upsetting my neighbours as I live in a ground floor apartment here in the UK... is there a Shure product I can use to do this? Was thinking the Shure MV88 or MV88+ But I"m told today by Shure that this still can"t be done as the mic neeeds to obviously pick all this up, which means sound has to come out my speakers from the desk...(which in don"t want)

I also have an iPhone 12 Pro Max if that can be of any use alongside anything, I"m not a very tech savvy person ð¤£ð¤¦ââï¸

So... I"m thinking of maybe getting the Zoom Q2N 4K

how would I integrate that into my setup so as to record video and audio without making noise and getting evictedð¤·ð»ââï¸ð¤£

want to make sure that my vocals aren"t louder than my keyboards and vice versa

Here are some pics of my setup on this google drive link ðð

  15. Apologies if I"m wrong, are the Fortes sounds new sounds on the board, or are they taken from previous Kurzweil boards?

I played the new Fantom 8 in my local music store, the Keybed was the best I"ve played and better (in my opinion) than the Korg Kronos 2 88 and Montage 8

However, the sounds on it just sounded like old Roland keyboards sounds and I was pretty disappointed

(Hence I bought the Montage 8)

  16. Hi guys

Been a tough year for us all obviously with Covid, no gigs over here in the UK still, but things looking up

Hope your all keeping safe and healthy

Seem to have lost my mojo for singing and playing, bit of depression has been a cloud over my head for a good 3 or 4 months.. so I"ve been getting myself back into it and enjoying it once more, my gears been getting a lot of use finally!

enjoying my Kronos and Montage and getting sounds sorted for 2 bands I play in

Also been playing a fair bit on my Kawai MP11

Lovely Keybed action and I still love the sound of it, but a chance has risen for me to sell it for a good price and put the money towards a used Kurzweil Forte... won"t cost me a lot more

I"ve seen a lot of videos on the Forte and really like what I hear

    Never owned a Kurzweil before

I just don"t know if I"d like the Keybed action

I also think you can never have enough soundsð¤£

I"m not into VST"s or stuff like that

Anyone hear got a Forte and how do you find yours compared to the Kronos or Montage and obviously the Kawai MP11

    Looking forward to peoples opinions

    My current equipment list is

    Gold Korg Kronos 2 88

    White Yamaha Montage 8

    Kawai MP11

    Hammond XK1C

    Roland Fantom X8

    Yamaha Motif ES7

  17. Hi guys

Hope your all safe and well during this awful time

I"m just setting up all my boards in my spare room today and wondered if you knew what keyboards had balanced or unbalanced outputs? Tried to research but hearing conflicting answers from what I"ve read

Want to make sure I have the correct cabling

    I have the following boards

    KAWAI MP11

    HAMMOND XK1C

    ROLAND FANTOM X8

    YAMAHA MOTIF ES7

    KORG KRONOS 2 88

    YAMAHA MONTAGE 8

    801.thumb.jpg.4d48f9ba7869d4c4725269a649e13fda.jpg

  18. Don"t get me wrong... my Roland Fantom X8 and Yamaha Motif ES7 have served me extremely well... but I had to upgrade and I have already to a nice Gold Kronos 2 88 to replace the X8, but I"m finding it so complicated or its me!ð so I have to now replace the Motif ES7 as the keys are sticking down and you can"t buy certain parts for it anymore, so obvious upgrade is the Montage, but... Forte sounds awesome too! Never owned a Kurzweil... sure they are amazing machines ð
  19. My new Yamaha Montage is potentially being ordered end of February or 1st week of March, excited!

I can then maybe sell my old Motif ES7 for maybe £600+ It"s served me well for 14 years now and over 1500 shows in my Bon Jovi Tribute and other 80"s act... the bad news is it"s got to be the black one and I really wanted the white one, but it"s loads more expensive ð¤¬ð¥

now the question is... do I really want the 7 or the 8??

I have a Gold Kronos 2 88 already.... could I still enjoy my keys rig with 2 x 88 note boards? Or go for the 76 key option?

I"m not concerned with the weight as im used to lifting heavy band gear all the time ð who else gigs with 2 x 88 note boards? It"s not like I"m soloing dream theater type stuff.. it"s only Jovi and 80"s stuff...

It was a choice between a Yamaha Montage or Kurzweil Forte... in the UK I can"t test the Forte... which is a shame, but montage should compliment the Kronos nicely
