Do you need high trigger on the lower 73-key manual?

This version by Annie Lennox isn't half bad
Yeah, nice. It does bring a fresh perspective to the original.

As Scott posted, you'll need a USB host box. Neither the Casio nor the MicroFreak are USB hosts, both are devices, and so they need a host between them. As well as Scott's suggestion, I'll throw in Mumidi's hublink, which allows you to connect two devices via USB (rather than one side requiring DIN/3.5mm MIDI). It's a bit pricey, but may be of interest.

(A useful rule of thumb is: if the answer is a USB male-male cable, you're probably asking the wrong question).

You're trying to build a combined YC plus CP plus two undersides minus two keyboard = piano/organ module?

I was thinking: I could go to GC and trade in my mint Fantom7, Nautilus73 and NS3c and that should net me around half of
what I need for a new NS4C.
Sound about right?
Paul
I would have thought your NS3c would get you half way there on its own if sold privately. Nord commands crazy high s/h prices.

I recall that the Mojo lower manual is not a standard MIDI keyboard. A couple of spare pins are used to provide power, and the MIDI protocol it uses is non-standard. There is a Crumar doodad box that can be used to inject power and translate to standard MIDI.

hey hey hey the OP showed guts and self awareness to put his stuff out there. c'mon, no-one can compare to Billy, jeez
+1. Plus, as pointed out previously, the context of the OP's gig is very different from a blues gig with Clapton.

I've just realised I have something to contribute. I sometimes use a "sack truck" style cart (two wheels, stands vertically, tilt it, push and go) to wheel my boards. To stop them slipping sideways, I don't use bungee cords, instead I use velcro nylon straps. No stretch, so no risk of the boards toppling off. This kind of thing: CLONK
Admittedly, with some of the gear you guys are transporting, you may need much longer (and pricier) straps to secure everything on your four-wheel "horizontal" carts.

If you choose an 88 that has a standard 5-pin MIDI Out, you'll be able to connect it directly to the Juno, and use it to play Juno sounds. If you choose an 88 that also has MIDI zoning, you'd be able to split/layer multiple Juno sounds over its 88 keys. Casio PX-5S would be a good lightweight choice for this, and IMO it has better EPs than the Juno as well (especially after you add the additional EPs you can download from the Casio forum).
+1 (again) on a weighted controller underneath a versatile top board. And of course you can run the Juno into Casio's audio ins, and avoid the need for a mixer.

My Kronos is ten years old and I think it would be foolish to buy a used one knowing it's been discontinued.
Why do you need to replace your Kronos? If it works, and it works for you, just keep it.

Of course. Clav for me. I add LH organ during the guitar solo - and (mirabile dictu) I get a solo as well!

some mystical seagull echoes
These are in Don Henley's "Boys Of Summer" as well. (I suspect the same seagull did both sessions - once you get known, the work comes in...)
How would you seagull? Medium attack, slow release, pitch-bend?
Cheers, Mike.

I'm not sure how well your camera's mic input would handle a line output from the mixer. (Impedance, level and even plug-in power might have an impact).
I've seen Youtubers who record audio and video separately, and sync them up (with a brief sound from a clapperboard/handclap/whatever) in a video editor. That might give you better results.
Cheers, Mike.

What M-S encoder are you refeering to?
A mid-sides encoder. Mid=L+R, Sides=L-R. This is the encoding performed inside the Space Station (perhaps with a bit of special sauce on top), and is a common studio technique.
9 hours ago, Reezekeys said:Won't work, because the side-firing speaker has to have an open-back design - you want sound coming out both sides that's 180 degrees out of phase, which happens by default in the SS since the speaker cone is pushing air out one side while it's pulling on the other!
True - or at least it's not identical to the space station. (Three speakers, encoded L-R facing L, L+R facing forward, R-L facing right might do it). But I think even two speakers as I described would add some depth and motion to a point source.
Cheers, Mike.

I would still like to hear how well a pair of conventional speakers, like the Alto, work positioned at 90deg to each other, through a M-S encoder. How much Aspen goodness would that bring?
Cheers, Mike.
-
That speaker is a pretty credible choice, competitive with QSC and perhaps better than Alto. If it's actually honky, then there's a fault.
Your Yamaha should be fine, and as you say turn the volume down. (Are you plugging in to channel 1 set to "mic", by any chance?).
You mention "mid-range honk" - how does it sound at moderate volume, playing prerecorded music, with EQ knobs flat? Have you tried adjusting the D-Contour switch?
Cheers, Mike.
