  1. A few more (some repetitive):

    - Don't beat yourself up! You are your own worst critic and believe it or not, you are better than you think.

    - Play within your current abilities. A simple part played well is much better than a complicated part played poorly.

    - If you like to read, get a copy of "Effortless Mastery" by Kenny Werner. It might help you deal with your self imposed limits.

    - The idea never should be the best musician - simply be the best contributor you can.

Good luck and stay with it!

  2. I have had great luck with the USB interface with an iPad. You likely have a hardware issue. What iPad/laptop are you connecting to? Perhaps you have a bad USB port. Or If using a PC type laptop, perhaps a corrupted driver?

While the Numa X may not have as many editable parameters as you like, it does have a reasonable and effective set -  unless you are heavy into programming. I think the internal sounds are excellent. I have a Nord Grand also and rarely play it anymore. The pianos on the Numa X seem at least as good, if not better.

Unfortunately the new Kurzweil Tech Support is not like the old Tech Support.  Jean would have made some good recommendations about approaches to take before servicing the unit.  As my uncle use to say the new tech support doesn't know their ass from 2nd base.

That’s really sad to hear. Jean helped me out on a number of occasions.

Yes, RCF TTO8As: 8” in birch cabinet. The low end is good; everything is as good as what’s feed into them. I suspect there are other good choices, as has been mentioned; especially for playing at a polite volume. The advantages of the TT08As becomes greater as the volume is raised. They continue to sound clean where other powered monitors I’ve had (i.e., K8 and K10) became unpleasant / boxey sounding.

Maybe the original QSC Ks but not so much the .2 series. The bottom end on the K8.2s is also pretty impressive.

Ken, it’s no contest between them. Seven just has more depth, more natural sound. Numa x has the faster tp110 action which works better for piano and clav. But Seven is King for Rhodes/Wurly feel and sound. Numa is serviceable though and sounds good in a mix.

I'm curious if you actually compared the two keyboards side by side,  or are using the Numa X soundbites? I've found with my Numa that a little tweaking with the EPs and where necessary, the keyboard settings, you can do a lot.

  6. I kinda explained this in one of my prior posts, but not very well. I do not necessarily need PA speakers in my studio. The speakers I am referring to are for practice with my duo, which does rehearse in the studio without headphones. I do have good monitors, Adam A8Hs (which certainly could suffice for the rehearsal) but regardless am exploring a separate system for rehearsal. I keep all of my gig equipment in a closet in the garage and do not take it upstairs to my studio. In spite of what I said earlier, I will not use anything upstairs for gigs - my bad.

I have received a lot of good information - thanks all!

K10's are pretty light.  Not sure why you can't integrate the K10's into your studio and also use for small gigs.  🙄  Guess I'm getting old....

Good point, but I am the one getting old. Studio is 2nd floor, and I have a “fly away” closet in the garage. Just load into my truck and go. Don’t want to move stuff, light as the K10s are, up and down. So I guess I am only looking for the studio.

  8. Currently use K10.2s for gigging - mostly piano but some organ. Love them, but want something integrated for my studio that could also be used for small gigs. I was thinking about the Motion Sound KP-610S as stereo is important. Any ideas or experience?  FYI, many years ago (John Fisher days) I did use Motion Sound. Thanks!

I'll be returning the SP7.  I've been comparing sounds from my PC2R (circa 2002) and with the exception of the piano sound, the PC2R sounds just as good.  Organs via the KB3 are better on the PC2R.  The piano is better on the SP7, but by no means insanely better.  I like my Yamaha P121 piano sound better than both.  That's a personal/subjective thing, of course.  But the real deal breaker is that after consulting with Kurzweil, there is no way to stop transmitting MIDI program change data from the SP7, so I can't set a sound on the PC2R and then change sounds on the SP7 without sending the PC2R into some random patch.  Unreal to me that this can not be prevented.  (The tech said he also consulted others on the PC2R, and that has no setting to ignore patch changes.)

I guess my expectations were too high on the SP7.  I have the Numa X Piano GT on order.  But I'm worried I will not like that modeled piano sound. Now also considering the MP7SE.  This purchase is turning out to be MUCH more difficult than I anticipated!  It doesn't help that I can't find any of the boards on display anywhere.  I'd like to try the CP88, and others.  But none are in stock and playable anywhere!  Argh.

The Numa X APs are not modeled - they are sampled. However, modeling is used for attributes such as string resonance, etc. The EPs, however, are modeled.  They greatly improved the pianos in the first firmware upgrade (2.0).  And they were good even before that. I think that you will see further updates in the not too far future. I would be interested in your impressions of the keybed. I have both the Numa X 88 and the GT and although I like both, the keybed on the GT is great! Love the escapement.

I'm wondering if anyone else has a problem with the damper system.I have the Numa GT, and it is way too loud and sustains too much. When I play the EPs, it just turns to mush using the damper pedal.Same with the acoustic pianos. I have stopped using the damper pedal because it overtakes the sound.I wish there was a way to dial it back some...or a lot.

My Numa X Gt damper pedal works exactly as it should.

Thanks @Brad Kaenel I understand that Crumar selected the TP100 in the Seven specifically for its similarity to a Rhodes action, which has been itself criticised on multiple occasions. If the TP110 is more acoustic piano and less Rhodes, then it's more suitable for me.

    Cheers, Mike.

I actually think the TP100 was chosen because the TP110 had not been released. For my use, the TP110 is excellent for both APs and EPs. The response is very quick. I use a NUMA X 88 at gigs and a NUMA X GT at home. Both keybeds are very satisfying. The GT keybed is in a class by itself. I love the escapement.

this made me smile. "Kawaii" is Japanese for "cute" — as in, anime-character or baby animal "cute".

The company is "Kawai" — one "i". 🙂

I've been unhappy with my Nord Grand ever since I realized they removed the setoff (escapement) from the Kawai keyed. I would not have bought it had I known this at the time.

After updating firmware, I'm positively loving the onboard mixer.  Been prepping for an upcoming vocalist & piano wine bar gig Friday.   I assigned that programable knob to external input level.   Using  Ipad for some light drums loops via soft drummer.  Loved being able to control (or mute) the Ipad  from that knob.  So easy to pop into the mixer for tweaks  too.   I'm seriously considering  also running the singer into the Numa to get some delay/reverb;  since we use my Bose compact which has no FX on the XLR channel.  Would love to hear anyone's experiences doing vocals into the Numa.

I use my Numa X in a duo. We use the audio mixer for my vocalist and my harmonies. Works great, and I no longer take a mixer. I also use the USB for iPad apps - control and actual audio. We use one dynamic mic and a condenser. Of course the condenser needs 48 volts, and I wish that capability existed with the Numa X. The fix is easily, though. Just get a battery powered in-line 48 volt adapter. Here is what I use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08H24SBMS?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details.

The master effects are great for vocals, and you also have individual EQ for each analog audio in. My setup is really simplified now. Good luck!

OK, I went back to the demo page and I think I remembered what I didn't like in the piano sounds:

    https://www.studiologic-music.com/products/numa_x_piano/sounds/

Listen to the first repeated note in the Model D 1968 demo but also listen to the first few measures from the new library A. Förster demo. When playing softly in the tenor and bass range there's an extreme dullness, lack of clarity, almost like a synth or a harp, no bright overtones, as though the piano is covered in blankets and is recorded from the other part of the room. I discovered that all the piano models exhibited that quality. Once I started playing stronger and higher up the keyboard, I enjoyed it a lot, but then I'm mostly a classical pianist and tend to have a very subtle and soft touch.

Good and useful comments for those considering the Numa X.

I don't want to seem a fanboy on this but as I said before, the 2.0 firmware made a huge difference. The Foster demo should have had the update, but who knows? Really, anyone interested in the board needs to try it. And as much as I like my Numa X 88, the GT is a big difference in playability.l

I owned the regular Numa X (not GT) for a while. Replaced it with a CP88 that is better in every regard. Knowing how you are really picky about pianos and return them often and how you like the CP88 and P515 (and we both own an AvantGrand that we apparently like, you the N3X and me the N1X, basically the same action) I highly doubt you’d love the Numa X GT, despite it having better action than the regular Numa. But I’d be really interested in hearing your opinion.

Did you have the 2.0 firmware upgrade? It made a world of difference on both my 88 and GT in terms of sound and keyboard response.
