  1. Thanks for all the responses. This topic started when I was thinking about getting a larger 2nd keyboard, thus needing a different type of keyboard stand. I try to keep this as minimalist as possible. A Casio PXS-1000, Korg microkey 37, korg nanokontrol and Focusrite Scarlette 2i2. All keys are used as midi controllers and software is on the iPad. The items on top of the Casio and temporarily attached with gaffers tape. I have a very basic x stand. So far it all works well and I have minimal gear to pack and carry. I think I'll probably stick with it for a while longer. Here's a pic of my setup https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMuGCJSxvmXzNJgyly5hB7Xz52XIXMgqaNm-IkK
  2. Trying to think why I would want to flip it backward?
  3. What's the difference in the K&M 18881 and 18882 2nd tier extensions? Also, looking at Amazon, the 18881 model shows a picture of two extension units at $77, whereas the 18882 model shows a picture of one unit at $99.
  4. I've always liked K&M products. I used the Spider stand for a while but it's much heavier-duty than what I need these days. Can the 1880 be adjusted to a good height for standing or sitting?
  5. I'm looking for a 2-tier keyboard stand. I will be using a Casio PXS series on the bottom (about 25 lbs) and a light weight midi controller on the top tier (about 10 lbs). I'm not looking for anything heavy duty. I need something that will be fairly easy to set up and breakdown and with good positioning options so I can place the top tier close to the bottom one. I've been looking at the KS7292 Double-X Ergo Lok Keyboard Stand (https://www.zzounds.com/item--MUPKS7292) which seems to be in the ball park of what I'm looking for. Anyone have experience with this keyboard or can you suggest an alternative? Thanks!
  6. Never mind. I still have a lot to learn about M1. The patches I was looking for were "hidden" under Multi. I was searching under Programs
  7. It appears that the content of at least some of the cards is different for the Windows versus iPad version. I was looking for a match with the Tri-Synth lead which is found on iM1 by looking under Synth Leads in the browser. However this patch and several others I've been looking for is not available on any of the cards in the Windows version. Can anyone verify this? Lee
  8. Thanks, I figured the answer would be something like that but thought I'd ask just to be sure. Regarding a midi-usb foot pedal, any suggestions? I don't need anything fancy or expensive. 3 or 4 button switches would be plenty.
  9. Looking for a reasonably priced USB foot switch for triggering various software functions (e.g. turning a tremolo switch on Lounge Lizard on and off) via midi CC. Found the Korg EC-5 but it has a 6-pin male ending (EC-5). Could this be turned into a USB midi foot switch using this Monoprice adapter?
  10. I'm thinking about purchasing an -S100 as a midi controller. I will not be using any of the onboard sounds. CC control through a NanoKontrol 2. I'm wondering how the keyboard action compares to the Casio PX series. I've owned several PX pianos over the years and like their action.
  11. Another option- skype piano lessons. I started the beginner Peter Martin course but still had trouble focusing my efforts and sticking with a regular practice schedule. I figured I probably needed a real-time teacher who would provide personalized feedback and review my progress weekly. Most of the skype lessons I looked at were too expensive- $50 and up an hour, which I couldn't afford. I finally found a site- Piano Teachers Connect, which offers skype lesson at $30/hr. I filled out the "tell us about you" form, describing my musical goals. You pay for the first trial lesson up front, and then if you're happy with the teacher they've matched you with, you pay monthly in advance. If you know at least 5 days ahead of the next lesson that you won't be available for the scheduled date/time, you can work it out with the teacher for a different day or if the lesson will be missed, you don't have to pay. Overall, I've been pleased with the result. My teacher is very competent and very open to any songs and instructional materials I want to include. Right now I'm working on scales, 2-5-1 progressions, a couple of Real Book selections (Michelle and Autumn Leaves) and a chapter in Tim Richards book Exploring Jazz Piano Vol 1. So if you think you might need a real-time teacher to help you work toward your goals and lay down weekly expectations, check it out.
  12. I have watched some of the Peter Martin lessons. Very impressed. Video player features are outstanding. Will probably take the plunge and sign up for a year. Has anyone actually done his beginning Jazz Piano course? I'd love to hear from you. Also, is anyone familiar with Steve Nixon's site freejazzlessons.com? He has several plans for paid memberships.
  13. Thanks for the suggestions. Not necessarily looking for a world-class teacher, but someone (or an online lesson plan) which will help me stay organized and on target.
  14. So here's the deal. I'm an intermediate level keyboardist with lots of experience playing in classic rock and pop bands. I'm fair to middlin' at reading music. I've been working with YouTube videos from various pianists who offer jazz piano lessons. I've also been going through Tim Richards great book Exploring Jazz Piano, volume 1. I would really like to take face-to-face piano lessons but I live in a small town and I know of no one local who teaches anything other than classical piano with children as their primary audience. I feel like there's a huge amount of material online, and in fact this is a problem for me. Too much to choose from; for example, I'll work on minor scales for a while, then I get distracted by a piece of sheet music I want to learn, then I'll find other free online lessons for jazz standards. I'm also a member at Willie Myette's website. I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for a good teacher who I can get Skype lessons from, or a website which offers an online lesson plan which is structured enough that I can follow those lessons and master new skills without getting distracted. Any suggestions?
