  1. No. Nothing to apologize for. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't nuked for some weird reason. Thanks.
  2. My tech got called out to a gig once. There was an organist/bandleader who was rather well known from the area who was to play that evening and the organ wouldn’t start. The tech arrives and asked, ‘When was the last time you oiled the organ?’ His reply was ‘Oiled, what do you mean?’ He had gigged with this Hammond forever and it had never been oiled. The back of the organ was covered with a single piece of painted leather that had the organist name on it. The leather was nailed on with hundreds of large head upholstery tacks. The first step was to get the back off, which took a while. Once the back was off he he oiled the organ. Direct oiled the bearings and got the generator broke loose and told the customer not to shut it off because it may not start again. Then got paid and went home. The tech believes the reason it ran so long without oiling was because it was the cleanest organ he had ever seen on the inside. It was pristine because the leather back kept all the dust out.
  3. I oil every September. It does not take much. You do not want the organ to go dry or the wicks may not take oil again. Well that’s what I do which doesn’t mean much I guess.
  4. Okay. Someone moved it. I just read the Keyboard and guitar forums. Thanks
  5. An old friend and acquaintance passed away on 2/28 and I posted an obituary. The thread disappeared.
  6. Rest In Peace Bob. My sympathies go out to the girls and the rest of the family. You are a legend. https://kurrusfh.com/obituaries/robert-bob-g-heil/?
  7. It depends on the CV. Early CVs had no bass foldback this can be cool. The bass runs all the way down the manual. It’s deep. The early full bass models should have 91 tone generators. It has ratchet drawbars. Drawbars changes are not smooth and changing registrations mid chord makes obnoxious popping noise. Stock CVs are not self powered. They are powered by the cabinet. There is no percussion of course plus some other generator differences. CVs can have great tone. One of my favorite rock organs is a CV. But there are disadvantages. However… Money can fix most anything though. ps - I don’t want to sound like I’m suggesting CV is the better organ. A CV in good operating order can be really cool but all things being equal the 3series is definitely the better organ and that extra 20 years of age often makes a big difference.
  8. I appreciated Keith Emerson especially as a teenager. I got to the point though that his playing style wasn’t an influence. If I want to go down that style road I would just as soon listen to the World’s elite play Scriabin, Liszt, Rachmaninov etc …. FWIW, IMO, EIEIO, Terry Adams style is applicable in practically any Rock context. It just depends on how much Terry is too much. At the heart of it, Rock keys are a percussion instrument . Just ask any Hammond player. Not sure if anyone can view this. It was in my feed today. Someone here is going full Terry. https://www.facebook.com/reel/923498609557225?fs=e&s=TIeQ9V&mibextid=xCPwDs
  9. Jerry was once asked in an interview if Jimmy was a good piano player. His response was basically 'Yes Sir, any student of mine is a good piano player.'
  10. I have several 1 Spots I use to power various small miscellaneous pedalboards. One for my Pedal Steel board one for my Banjo/Dobro/Acoustic guitar board. I have a couple for whenever I need something on the fly. I have never seen this. They should be good to 1700mA. Probably a little higher for conservativism's sake. First thought was there was an issue with the bayonet input circuit on the pedal but it worked with other 1 Spots. Must be something wrong with the supply. You can ask Trutone for a replacement. They may want to see it. I'm a longtime Visual Sound customer. They have always been responsive when I contacted them.
  11. I personally never worried about attendance too much as the teacher at the collegiate level. If students felt they could pass the Econ exams while missing lectures and the review sessions they could go for it. Although missing points from the weekly quizzes could hurt especially if they had a bad exam. As the student it a terrible waste to do so. If it wasn’t, I was enrolled in the wrong class.
  12. Mr. Keezer is my current (virtual) teacher. Open Studio is one of my favorite online things.
  13. I don’t know. I didn’t follow its later stages. I thought it had some interest posts and it was a decent interview.
  14. If I showed up late or unprepared my teacher let me know it. I was wasting time, opportunity, and money. And it’s rude. Classes and lessons teach more than chops.
  15. You have probably already done this but … make sure you are not in split mode with no sound set to the lower manual.
  16. I have my favorites that were big influences. The three Billys are foremost: Payne, Powell, and Preston. But the best… probably guys most have never heard of. Like Michael Bluestein who I last saw a few months ago when Head East was opener for Foreigner. He is longtime road keyboardist for Foreigner and Boz Skaggs. He is a technical beast. Or our very own, Tom Brislin. We have some guys here though many have went into stealth mode are absolute beasts. It’s what kind of made the forum different. We had players.
  17. I am ... as well as probably most of us here .... well versed in Vince Guaraldi. But I didn't know who Buggs was. It's a pretty cool story about a Polish virtuoso named Jakob Gimpel. He was great. For what it's worth I have learned a lot from this thread. Thanks
  18. I guess I’m unclear on who my generation is. I love Herbie and Chick. I have a personally autographed picture of Chick in my studio room but I see those guys as the previous generation. Craig Taborn is a technical beast but I can’t get into his playing. Every time I have heard him he is playing too atonal or is way outside for my ears. My ears are not that avant-garde.
  19. I saw the Rick Beato interview with Brad Mehldau. Brad is great. But I thought ' I don't think he is the greatest of our generation.' Rick Beato and I are the same age. So I thought to myself 'Who is my favorite Jazz pianist that is about our age?' and the first name who pops into my head is Gonzalo Rubalcaba. I queried Google and asked who are the greatest Jazz pianists today and got 45 pictures and names. No Gonzalo. Oh well. Everyone has different taste. I guess I probably don't understand the subject. The lists I got was interesting I have some new names to check out. It just seems funny to me who becomes legend and who doesn't sometimes. PS - Michel Petrucciani was another guy our age ... he could shred and be very musical. I found him to be amazing. A shame he passed at only 36.
  20. I guess what constitutes expensive can be relative. If I own it and I have the necessary means of transportation I would use it. What does the gig pay? My wife and children are accomplished brass and winds players. The Kronos 2-88 in my current rig cost me $3700 plus the cost of the road case. All their main instruments costs way more than my Kronos did. My son’s Bari Sax was outrageous. My daughter’s silver 4 valve euphonium I got her as a high school graduation gift wasn’t cheap either. Be glad you’re a keyboardist. 😀😀😀
  21. I do this. ( the nails not the the tape). Open air summer gigs I use talc/baby powder.
  22. My guess would be honky tonk tremolos and aggressive use of glissandos but these aren’t necessarily Country specific but are found quite a bit in the upbeat stuff I do.
  23. I don’t. I’ve done it forever. Dad was a classic Country performer. It’s the genre I was raised in. I’ve sometimes hurt the cuticles on my right thumb and fingers if I am not careful on glissandos.
  24. Another thing I've wondered about is ... It isn't 1980 anymore. When I was gigging up to last January, the sound reinforcement systems were large flown line array systems. Modern systems are designed to evenly distribute sound through a venue. I'm just a honky tonk piano player and am not sure of what the exact impact of current sound reinforcement technology is keyboard sound through FOH but, I can't help but think it improves the L to R situation as well as F to B. But this is just conjecture.
