  1. Old houses, old tube amps, old cars, old Hammonds.

    You don't own them.

    They own you.

When you´re done with that old car/ tube amp/ Hammond/... you´re just gonna sit back and enjoy it.....until next object appears!!

  2. I had the original Numa and really liked the sound, close to my old C3/ leslie 145, but quality was an issue.

When Viscount Legend came out I bought it but returned it, cause the sound and sim was in no way close to what I was searchin for.

Later on I tried the Legend again, with the latest update OS 1.6, but still not what I was after.

Then I was lucky to get a KeyB Duo MK2, same "engine" as the Numa, but built like a tank and two manuals.

To my ears keyclick and crosstalk are essential to the overall sound of the KeyB and the way they (together with the C/V) blend into the sim is just great!

The soundmemory of my C3/ 145 says KeyB Duo MK2 is as close as a clone can get (for me).

I´ve tried a lot of different speakers to get the livesound right and now I´m OK with this:

KeyB and Viscount Physis 3 -> Peavey PV6 mixer -> DigiTech RP360 effect -> QSC GX7 poweramp -> two Kustom 12" guitar cabinets fitted with 15" Fane Sovereign fullrange speakers.

Today I´m happy with this rig, tomorrow never knows!

  3. I play with four different bassists. Two are absolute PIA's about the left hand and two don't care at all. For the two that are PIA's I move my left hand up one octave (for organ I just pull out 4 and 2 DB's and shut down 16 and 8 and can still play in the normal range). i also back off the bass on my mixer; this sometimes is enough on the non-organ channel.

    +1!

  4. I also had the Numa2 for evaluation and it has a really really great keyboard feel ! (the sound is not my cup of tea..btw)

I have the same experience with the Numa2: excellent keybed but no good sound.

I´m hopeing for UHL to trim the keybed of the X3 to get that feel, perhaps at Messe in april?!

  5. +1!

I have the same experience re. what ampsystem to use with a clonewheel. With my Numa 1 I use a poweramp in stereo, left channel to a 15" Fane bass/mid speaker in a vented cab, right channel to a Celestion 12" speaker in an openback cab, no HF drivers. Organ sound is powerfull and no shrills, same goes for my Korg SV-1!

I hate to come off always trying to defend the Numa ( I do not have the Numa 2, and only heard it at NAMM for perhaps 20 minutes) but I do have one thing in common with the above review from Mitch.

When I tried the Numa 1 with a single QSC 12'' 2 way speaker, I was also not able to get a very good sound out of it.

For me to get the Numa to sound good I have tended to use speakers without too much high end presence.

The same thing is true for me when using Hammonds and leslies. I have heard plenty of leslies that were hard to keep from sounding shrill, particularly when the back is facing forward.

I have talked of this before on Clonewheel groups. There is a real art to matching digital organs to amplification systems that help them sound more "organic" ( almost a pun).

I have the same issues when I try to amplify digital pianos. Crank up the volume and the warmth often goes away.

Because I have collected various speakers and amps I have found some stuff that works with the Numa. It's mostly older EV' and Yamaha speakers, and one lightweight Behringer that I have. Sometimes I use speakers with no high frequency driver whatsoever ( 12'' EV Force and JBL D 130), which really help eliminate unwanted shrillness.

  6. No, Joey D´s name and KeyB engine is not mentioned/ printed on the Numa 2.

I have the Numa 1 and I bought the Numa 2 but sent it back. To my ears Numa 2 had a less organic, more syntetic sound than the 1, OD was more fizzy, leakage had to much bass frequency in it and the lesliesimulation was not to my taste.

The keybed feel was super and the casing was rocksolid but my Numa 1 is still a very, very close clone to my old C3/147 combo!
