  1. Changed back to white within 30 seconds!
  2. Ahh yes, I remember it well ! Gonna give my age away but back in the early seventies, with a band in Bangkok and Singapore, six month residencies were the order of the day. We played (worked) 3-4 hrs per night for six nights a week. If you're not overly blessed with natural talent this is the way to get a band tight and "in the pocket" - so much so that in the early nineties a reunion was arranged, venue was an open barn in the back garden of a country pub. No rehearsal just four guys getting together after twenty years. We nailed that sweet spot, no trouble at all, years rolled away and enormous grins all round. If you get the opportunity, go for it.
  3. Yes, they are out of phase. At any given instant what emanates from the front of the speaker will be 180 degrees out of phase with what comes from the rear. As to whether this few millisecond delay enhances the spacial aspect I'll leave it to those whith golden ears" to decide but I suspect it might.
  4. As the sum of two signals, L+R is the same as R+L. Similarly the difference, L-R = R-L. The SS3's side facing speaker, which handles the difference, is an open-back design which means each side is out of phase with the other. If I have misunderstood your question - my apologies.
  5. This thread prompted me to revisit the S4+ and Vintage Keys card. Patch 109 on the card caught my attention, .....Donld Trumpt!
  6. I have an S4+ and a QSR in my racks. My Quadrasynth + I gave to my son a couple of years ago, which I sometimes regret. A Vintage Keyboards, Eurodance (which I never use) and an eight bank Expando card complete the Alesis set. The S4+ has easier patch selection than the QSR and why was that wonderful flute sample ditched in later incarnations? That "Moody Flute" patch still sends shivers! This thread has reingnited my curiousity about the other cards and I'm unsure whether to thank or blame you Mr. Bryce.
  7. There's 158 pages of wisdom and experience to read through but Aspen may offer you a short-cut. (I'm an engineer in an entirely different discipline)
  8. +1 to all the points here....enjoy. Oh, and Worth...you're already moving a keyboard, stand, bench, leads, pedals and an SS3, would a small bass amp make a significant difference when considered against the improved sound and increased satisfaction you'll achieve. Give it a try. Gear4music offer 30 days money back and if you notify them within 7 days they'll even collect FOC......and NO I don't work for them!
  9. I've read good things about Seismic Audio and this would have been my "go to" but they don't have a European distributor. So it's a risk to import, what with duties, VAT and delivery.....and then if it doesn't suit..... Eager to hear your report Zaphod.
  10. Hi Worth, saw you on the PA1X videos and Korg Forums. Good to see you here. Amongst my keyboards I have a PA3x and I understand entirely your views. The accompaniments really need a system that can reproduce the lower registers - you've got to hear (and feel) the bass and kick. I, too, was looking for that mythical beast, the all-in-one, easy to lift solution. SS3 goes about 80% of the way and I'm impressed. Honestly folks, I can understand that if you're gigging with a bass player the SS3 will fulfill most of your needs but for Worth, who's providing solo accompaniment to a choir, and me, gigging solo for 24 years....well we need a bit of "wellie" (Brit speak) Worth, get in touch with Gear4music, they do a 30 day return, and try a Gallien-Kruger MB112. If you don't like - money back! I guarantee it will change not only your view but your percepion. Meanwhile, Aspen, if you're watching, kudos! But please register me for a (sizable) early adopters discount on an SS4.
  11. You're limiting yourself a bit here, cedar. Singer's mic. is going into channel 1 or 2 (the only two with xlrs and tone controls) leaving you with 3/4 or 5/6 for your CP4 and no tone controls. You'll be bass light unless you have EQ on the Yamaha. SS3 settings are going to depend on the room but, at the sound check start with Aspen's advised 12 o'clock and "season to taste"
  12. To fill out the bass I first tried an M-Audio BX sub. No matter how it was set up in my room all it gave was a pitchless thump. That was swapped for a G-K MB110 lightweight bass amp which I fed from the sub out on the SS3. At last, some fundamentals! The G-K is perfect for playing at home. If I were still gigging more grunt would be needed but this set-up suits my needs.
  13. All my boards and modules are run through a Mackie LM3204. Yes, I get an improvement by cranking up the bass but if the speaker cant reproduce the fundamentals all you can do is boost the harmonics.
  14. My SS3 was bought solely on the strength of the reviews on here - yes, after years of lurking I've begun to trust you people. I've only used it at home so far and for solo playing it definitely lacks bass. Drums and piano lack that satisfying body and so I'm about to buy a sub but don't know which. I'm looking forward to trying the SS3 on a gig in a band situation but these only turn up 3-4 times per year nowadays. Throughout the 153 pages of this thread (yes, I've been here for them all) I've had in mind.... Six Phases of a Project 1. Enthusiasm. 2. Disillusionment. 3. Panic. 4. Search for the Guilty. 5. Punishment of the Innocent. 6. Praise and Honors for the Non-Participants. It's to SS3's and Aspen's credit that we are only just beginning to explore the cusp of 1&2. BTW hardware, people have said I sound good from 100 yards away as well.
  15. Speaking as one who bought in, unheard, six or seven pages ago I'm delighted that this thread has made it to this far to 150. In a band scenario I can see how the SS3 can work when bass is undertaken by a dedicated bass player but in my domestic, mainly solo, situation I'm very conscious of the lack of bottom end. My pianos lack gravitas, drums lack body, bass lacks, well.... Don't get me wrong, I like the SS3 (thanks Aspen) but if a SS4 full spectrum one piece solution came out I'd be in the front line - but probably cursing that I only had a SS3 to trade in! In the mean time, umpteen pages back we've seen discussions about sub-bass units v's bass amps - what do long term users think?
  16. Greeting folks, ...long, long time lurker here. I felt it might be wise to check out some other introductions and just one page back Lindaru's hit a chord with me. Back in 1962 I'd been persuaded by a girl I fancied to join a church choir in South London. One rehearsal, in order to impress, you understand, I made (if I may say so) a valiant attempt to play Nut Rocker on the pipe organ; hence began my education on envelopes and attack! A few years later Soul was all the rage in the UK and my Vox Continental 11 and I entered into the spirit. Day drawing office job was boring so nightclub trio in a provincial town offered an escape. From there a year or two playing for GIs on R&R in Bangkok and then on to the SE Asian circuit turned the boy into the man. Back in UK Big Band, Pub Rock, Duo and eventually solo work paid the bills over 24 years. Now I just play at home with friends and perhaps two or three gigs. However, with advancing years (I'm now 68) comes the desire for advancing knowledge. Apologies to all you consummate pros who left me behind years ago but can you please resurrect "The Reharm Room" BTW for those that have been paying attention I never nailed the church girl but......
