@Caevan O’Shite, @desertbluesmanif I want to reverse the plate on my G&L with the volume on top do I  just need to flip it and change the wiring or is there more to it? I have everything I need to do the soldering.

@surfergirlYou just reverse the plate put the volume closest to the pickup, the tone in the middle and the plate on the rear you may have to extend the front pickup wiring a little but that should do the trick & switching the wires may be a bit tricky, maybe not.

  2. Actually after 40+years of Fender light jazz picks, I tried switching to the Dunlops over and over again, so for this mornings practice Tried the Fender light jazz picks and went immediately back to them. 40 years of a certain "feel" made me realize that my my long years of habit with the Fender Jazz picks made me so used to the jazz picks, that my unconscious "feel" took over every time I tried to replace the jazz picks with the Dunlops, I was making bad picking mistakes due to the different feel. So many years of habit won over and back I went to the Fenders. (Glad I did not throw out the Fenders). I have been trying to replace the Fenders for 5 years but to no avail.

  3. When I built my strat/tele hybrid I used the Tele plate and reversed the way it sits in the guitar, the volume control is located nearest the rear ;pickup the tone in the middle and the 5 position switch nearest the rear end of the guitar. It works out nice easy to get the volume swells and the switch is way out of the way.1PartscasterII.jpg.92cf1fb47b054d61424423b1bb91a507.jpg

  4. I spent 40+ years using Fender medium Jazz picks. I recently started using Dunlop extra light standard sized picks which I cut down to the size of the old jazz picks, trying to mimic the feel of the jazz picks. After a few years of trying to adapt to the new picks, I think I might be closing in on the change from the Fender jazz picks to the lighter Dunlops..

  5. Dicky Betts was one awesome guitarist, I agree. He was a little overshadowed by Duane Allman a bit, in the early Allman Brothers band, because Duane was also a great guitarist, Duane's style put him way out front of the rest of the players. The two guitarists left a huge legacy with their offspring who still play out a bunch.

RIP Dicky Betts you were a really excellent player.

  6. I was at a tribute show last night, a band from Western Canada called Eagle Eyes. Of course they did Eagles tunes. They did absolutely the best tribute to the Eagles material and better than any other tribute band that I have ever seen. The the guitar players were absolutely spectacular. The bass and drummer were spot on, the band rocked it. The vocals were great. The harmonies were awesome (I started my musical odyssey singing a-Capella doo wop with a group called the Soundmasters on Long Beach Island New Jersey so I am well versed in harmonies). The stunned me with their spot on vocals. I saw Joe Walsh do the Rocky Mountain Way with The James Gang in Bricktown NJ on their first national tour, The Eagle Eyes did that spot on also. The guitar player who played Walsh was excellent in the vocals as well as the guitar work as were the rest of them. I recommend the Eagle Eyes tribute band highly if they ever show up in your area. https://www.eagleeyestribute.rocks/

  7. @Caevan O’Shite Thanks I was always looking for that smooth overdrive with overtones and undertones. None of those guys you mentioned above were an influence on me, the only guitarists that I ever copied was a little early Clapton from the Creams Wheels of Fire album, And lots of early Roy Buchanan (whom I saw live on his first national tour). I am an improvisor. I learned how the scales work and how to fit them against the backing tracks, and from that point on I just let it flow out (improvising like that on original tunes has very little monetary value in the bar scene or in the recording process). Music is just a nice hobby for me.

However one of these days I might try to play out, that is why I just got that second Super Champ X2, so I have a backup unit in case the first one breaks. The SCX2 is an amp I can use in small rooms. It has all the effects I use which is overdrive and reverb. One trip in, and one trip out, amp in one hand, guitar in the other. The SCX2's also have a line out which can go into bigger amps or a PA system for more volume than the SCX2 which are only 15 watts RMS.

Anyways it is hard to sell improvised sets on original tunes to local venues unless I go out and play some venues for free, and if I get good results other venues might pay......

Please give me all info and detes on those 6V6's, thanks! I have two amp-heads that use duets of 6V5's, an Egnater Rebel 30 MkII (which simultaneously uses a duet of EL84's) and a 65 Amps Empire (which deploys a highly tricked-out circuit that makes 'em perform with the character of EL34's in '60s and '70s vintage Marshall amps).

Call Eurotubes, I did not get the details except they sounded good. (503) 659-7401 They are in Oregon.

  9. @Caevan O’Shite I still have the tube dampers on my other SCX2, also I have a question in to Eurotubes about the BIAS setting. The newly acquired amp to me is definitely a bit punchier than the older one. The newly acquired amp is actually 12 years old but relatively unused, the one I have been using for about 4 years is a 2020 model, the newly acquired amp was built in 2012, but was relatively not used at all.

I am however gonna get another set of JJ's for the 2020 model as well as a new Lil Buddy if the new tubes don't make that one punchier. I have both amps set in Fender Fuse to the exact same settings, so I am guessing the new tubes are different sounding because of the new improvements on the 6V6's and the one preamp tube a 12AX7 style Under Eurotubes name of 5157.

  10. I just did the re-tubing and replacing my newly acquired Super Champ X2 speaker and setting the  BIAS on the amp. It sounds waaaaaay better than the one I have been using for the past 4 years. I followed the Eurotubes guy's offers to use some newer versions of the JJ Tubes that I have in the older SCX2. I no longer need tube damper rings because they put some new ideas into the power and preamp tubes. Also the Hemp cone Lil Buddy sounds awesome even before it is broken in (so to speak) (Looks like I may need a new set of JJ's for the older amp which now sits in my shed and will go unused except practice time on the days my wife is home at guitar practice time).

Question for my friends on this forum in the BIAS setting. The instructions say to set the BIAS at more than 40 MV. I checked to setting and it is set at 52 MV so I left in like that. My older amp I set at 39.5 MV because I misread the instructions thinking I needed to set the older SCX2 at or near 40 MA
