  1. Hey Myles, I played through a Univalve the other day and it sounded really cool. I was wondering, I may get a bivalve (between this and a VHT 50 2/12) I noticed there were 2 inputs into the bivalve, one of them lower gained. So could I run through an A/B box and run through both the hot input and the lower one and almost have a 2 channel amp like cleaner and distorted? Have you heard a VHT 50 12? I saw one on ebay but I don't want it if it sounds anything like my singer's pitbull 45. I know it has el 34's. Steve Fryette said it didn't have as much gain as the 50 CL which is my fav amp, but I would probably only use a 3rd of the gain avail anyways.. I loved the THD, I would hope the VHT would be able to compete. I tried out a Prescription ES and loved it, it has killer tone cranked but GOD is that loud.
  2. Thanks Myles. I am going to retube it tomorrow. I will get some soundclips maybe. I haven't tried it in about 8 years, but I remember thinking it had a great lead tone with all the gain stages off. I want to A/B it with my classic.
  3. Hey Myles, I am retubing a Peavey VTM 60. It uses 2 6l6gc's and 3 12ax7 preamp tubes. Is it a fixed bias amp? What tubes do you recommend? I am excited cuz I think with new tubes this thing will be amazing.
  4. Myles, I smacked the back of my amp today with my hand a couple times and the hiss went away. WOW, this thing sounds incredible. Groove Tubes smoke the stock stuff Peavey uses. It really brings out everything in the amp. One of the few amps I have heard that has 2 channels and both of them sound great. Thanks for the info again, you rock. Bruce
  5. If it is something else, what could it be? I mean in your experience, what could cause this problem. I might add, I was unimpressed with the cheap plastic or whatever the tubes were attached to. It seemed flimsy. I am sure this is why Peavey is cheaper. But it still sounds great. I wish they used some metal or a piece of wood to fix the tubes to. The tone is amazing coming out of this thing. I hope I didn't screw it up or something.
  6. How do I determine what tube is bad?
  7. I meant, does the fixed bias only come in to play if you use the same exact tubes as Peavey used?
  8. I am reading and is it because I didn't use the exact same tubes? If this is the case, please tell me I didn't just ruin my amp or something, or the tubes. It still sounded good, it was just buzzing more and it had that background static.
  9. Myles, I bought 8 GT #5's yesterday and 3 12ax7 preamp tubes. I read here and elswhere that the Peavey Classic has a fixed bias. Anyways, I installed them and they sound unbelievably better than my old tubes, which I might add looked practically burned. There is a static sound in the background and it hisses.. I heard his is a biasing issue. If it is a fixed bias amp, shouldn't it not have this problem? What can I do to fix it myself? I wanted to add, I practiced with the band tonight and it totally cuts through the mix now. The low end is much crisper and dynamic. It is amazing to me how subtle it is, but how it is so up front sounding with the band now. Way bigger sounding. I swear it kinda sounds like old VH or something. Thanks for the advice.
  10. Myles, thanks for advice you gave me regarding the tubes. I wrote you an email. Am I sending it to the wrong one? I played through the VOX CC yesterday and the band loved it. I had the amp on a speaker stand and I think that opened up the amp's sound in the room a little better than my 4/12. Any comments on that (speaker stands I mean)? The Vox cuts through the mix great. I just got off the phone with my buddy from Line 6, he is a marshall nut. He claims that Peaveys transformers and power supplies are cheap and shitty. I dunno, I love my Peavey Classic. He also said that using an attenuater will shrink the tone considerably. He used to use one on his Plexi. Is this true? SO many options make me nervous about choosing the wrong solution. If the Peavey has a crap power supply and transformer, can I upgrade it? Is it worth it? Thanks
  11. hey ellwood, send me your number through PM. I cant PM for some reason. i would love to talk shop with someone in detroit.
  12. Hey Myles, I tried 2 Dr. Z amps today. 1 was the route 66 (wow), the other was some Orange colored combo with more knobs. Both of these amps are excellent. I cranked up the route 66 and it sings. I still think for the style of music of my band I will go with the VOX (oh yeah and it is cheaper!). The guys at the store were talking about you and how you go crazy about Dr.Z! Anyways, you mind if I give you a ring next week at work?
  13. Myles, your a guitar amp PIMP!! Hey, I am going to try some Dr.Z amps tomorrow!! I don't want to buy anything until I have tried them out. I found a store that carries them. Kind of a hike but worth it. I can't believe how many amps you have. GOD!! I'm jealous.
  14. GOD MYLES, thats quite a collection of Dr. Z amps. Looks like you may need to unload 1 or 2 of them!!! Just kiddin
  15. Hey Myles have you seen or heard this amp from Peavey? I know it is probably cheap compared to alot of stuff, but I was wondering if you had any comments on it if you have heard it. http://www.peavey.com/news/article.cfm/action/view/id/30/20052001.cfm Valve King
  16. Hey Myles whats up with the Viper Preamp? You think they are worth the purchase? My singer wants to get one, but he asked me to ask you about it.
  17. Jim I saw and listened to your guitar. Very nice in appearance and tone. Kind of sounds like something Rik Emmet would like. I have a bunch of musician buddies in Portland. I guess it is the coolest place to live or something.. Like 10 of my friends moved out there and they won't shut up about the place.
  18. Flagship Mile .... If this is you: http://www.flagshipmile.com/pages/1/index.htm I have you on my website. Your stuff is just terrific and I have sent "destination" and one other song off to RCA by the way. On your Peavey .... this amp is VERT hard on tubes. On the Classic 50 and 100's I change the output sets every 300 hours. In V1 and V2 I use the ECC83S. In V3 I use a matched phase inverter. On the output tubes you want a #5 or #6 rating. The stock Sovteks make the amp sound like there was a blanket over the amp. Keep up the GREAT work! Thanks dude. I will read this verbatim to my guitar tech so he can figure out what you mean. i am a dummy with this stuff. I don't know what V1 and V2 is. HAHA. wow, i didnt know the tubes got used up that quick. i havent ever changed them before. thanks for the input i will definatly do what you say.
  19. Hey dude, I want to retube my Peavey Classic 100 watt head, what do you recommend? I want it to be dynamic, warm and punchy. It sounds great still with these tubes but I wonder if I am just desensitized. I have never retubed any amp I have owned cuz ALL of them were Peavey and the tone seemed to stay the same. Is there a benifit to retubing a Peavey? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
