Thanks everyone for your comments. Coming from people this talented, it means a lot. I rarely play for an audience this "hip" (can we still use that word?) , and haven't mangled an entire tune like this since college (a long time ago). But it was really fun to do! Many thanks to all of you for your inspiration (you all play yer butts off) and a special shout out to ProfD, for giving me a swift kick in the butt to participate in this via PM.
SK, I look forward to your CD release; put me down for a copy. I agree that we do think similarly, though I suspect that you have a traditional classical background that I completely lack, and somewhat regret.
Linwood, I keep thinking that I'd love to have a project that I could feature your harmonica playing on. I know that you haven't been playing it that long, but you've got a beautiful sound.
You know how it is; musicians are rarely satisfied. In retrospect, if I had more time I'd probably play it a little bit less heavy-handedly, and a little slower; after all, the reharms really fly by at a breakneck pace. I think that I also should've probably embellished the melody a bit more to horizontally counterbalance the neverending cascade of verticle reharms. Doing this has actually inspired an idea for a cool trio arrangement of this; though I don't really have a group situation happening at the moment to play it with.
Prof, now that you pushed me into this, you are hereby legally obligated to participate. Don't make the Reharm Police come-a-knockin' at yo door...
This is the best damn thread that the KC has ever had. Now that I think of it, HEY, DAVE BRYCE (or Stephen Fortner!)
If you're listening, I have two thoughts:
1. Perhaps consider making this thread into "a sticky"?
2. How cool would it be if you wrote an article about this thread for Keyboard Mag, featuring the magazine's own readership? You could include links to the audio files and even possibly transcriptions of selected reharms. It might even have the effect of getting more new players involved here at the KC. (and what's good for the KC is good for KM.) I'd find an article like that far more fascinating than the "weekend warrior" feature currently residing on the back page. Just a thought...
Keep 'em coming people; you're awesome!
