  1. Ah...I knew it as "Brazilian Wedding Song". Love it...
  2. I don't that I'm acquainted with Setembro. Recommend a recording of it?
  3. Beautiful Linwood. Wow, your orchestral writing is coming along beautifully! Always loved that tune. Stick a harmonica solo in there!! Always wanted to do something with "Velas" and "The Dolphin" too....
  4. Dave, That's Chick's reharm, not the kid's. I forget which album it's on off the top of my head....
  5. Dontcha HATE when that happens! May I ask who your coach is?
  6. SK, Thanks SK. It's a bit of a rough time time right now. I've really got my hands full with work, horn charts and the family. I've got two looming deadlines that are breathing down my neck that I'm struggling to meet, and do so without sacrificing creativity. I'll try to squeeze another one in, but can't say when that'll be at this point.
  7. +100 I'm blown away by the fact that you've no classical background, yet have assimilated enough over the years to achieve something like this.
  8. Pure genius. There's just no topping that. My hat's off to you.
  9. That was very cool. The gospel/RnB thing did throw me for a loop after the Chick vibe, but in a good way. Great!
  10. Hey, Stumbled upon a cool quartal reharm on "Little Sunflower". Go to THIS LINK and click on the mp3 demo of "Little Sunflower" on the right side. Enjoy...
  11. Easy there Sue; my six kids, work and endless horn arranging have kept me insanely busy; hence my lack of verbal participation lately. But I have been listening and applauding incessantly. So please put the lightning rod away.
  12. Ed Coury, Sue's right; in an effort to make my point that "it's all about the note choices we make rather than the gear that we use", I made a statement that may have been misconstrued to be a slight against you and your writing, which was absolutely not my intention. Please accept my humble apology.
  13. Oy vay!! Sue, I wasn't commenting on your friend's writing abilities, nor do I want Ed to lose his gig. But I think that this thread is so refreshing because we'd rather know more about the notes that our contemporaries are playing rather than their gear. That's all I'm saying.
  14. Thanks everyone for your comments. Coming from people this talented, it means a lot. I rarely play for an audience this "hip" (can we still use that word?) , and haven't mangled an entire tune like this since college (a long time ago). But it was really fun to do! Many thanks to all of you for your inspiration (you all play yer butts off) and a special shout out to ProfD, for giving me a swift kick in the butt to participate in this via PM. SK, I look forward to your CD release; put me down for a copy. I agree that we do think similarly, though I suspect that you have a traditional classical background that I completely lack, and somewhat regret. Linwood, I keep thinking that I'd love to have a project that I could feature your harmonica playing on. I know that you haven't been playing it that long, but you've got a beautiful sound. You know how it is; musicians are rarely satisfied. In retrospect, if I had more time I'd probably play it a little bit less heavy-handedly, and a little slower; after all, the reharms really fly by at a breakneck pace. I think that I also should've probably embellished the melody a bit more to horizontally counterbalance the neverending cascade of verticle reharms. Doing this has actually inspired an idea for a cool trio arrangement of this; though I don't really have a group situation happening at the moment to play it with. Prof, now that you pushed me into this, you are hereby legally obligated to participate. Don't make the Reharm Police come-a-knockin' at yo door... This is the best damn thread that the KC has ever had. Now that I think of it, HEY, DAVE BRYCE (or Stephen Fortner!) If you're listening, I have two thoughts: 1. Perhaps consider making this thread into "a sticky"? 2. How cool would it be if you wrote an article about this thread for Keyboard Mag, featuring the magazine's own readership? You could include links to the audio files and even possibly transcriptions of selected reharms. It might even have the effect of getting more new players involved here at the KC. (and what's good for the KC is good for KM.) I'd find an article like that far more fascinating than the "weekend warrior" feature currently residing on the back page. Just a thought... Keep 'em coming people; you're awesome!
  15. Hi all, I'm not satisfied with this rushed performance, but it's all that I've got time for right now. Also, I don't know what the deal is with DivShare, but I'm hearing all kinds of pops and clicks on playback that don't exist on my mp3 before uploading. Hope you like: Schmaltz For Debby
  16. Skykeys, I think that you're still not getting the joke that you unknowingly made. The word that you are looking for is "dissonant", not "dissident". If you look up "dissident" in the dictionary, you'll see why what you said is so funny.
  17. Intentional or not , that's hysterical! I think I've been accused of playing a lot of those type of chords!
  18. My kids are always bringing home the 'disease of the week' from school. Last month everyone but the baby got an awful stomach flu that had us all living in the bathroom. This week it's a chest flu. But I persevere...
  19. Though I finshed Chapter 2 weeks ago I haven't gone beyond; holidays and illnesses are slowing me down. If you're willing to wait, I'd need a few more days to catch up. If not, that's cool too. I don't want to hold up the rest of the group. I can catch up on my own and rejoin you then....
  20. Sounds good to me. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays everyone!
  21. Geoff, Hmmmmm.....I wasn't necessarily imposing a time limit, just suggesting that perhaps we should take "bigger bites" as a group for the time being; at least until the material gets to be too much to handle.
  22. Done with Chapters 1 & 2. Advise when ready to move on...
