  1. Nice Majuscule. Nice to hear keyboards having a big part of the arrangement. I've listen to the other Carter & the Capitals' tracks on YT. I gotta say you guys are, honestly, on the way to higher ground.
  2. This is the Keith Emerson Band from the Moscow Concert 2008. I like this more than the ELPalmer cover from the "Return of the Manticore" box-set. Marc Bonilla admirably sings, Keith adds a bit more delay/reverb to the keys and the drummer plays a bit like Cozy Powell. A bigger symphonic sound without the "finger snaps, claps, sandpaper" effects. This live version is better than the disappointing live ELP concerts from 1997. [video:youtube]
  3. Like Oprah, it's gonna cost a lot of bread.
  4. Lamm did play the prelude, but not exactly like the CTA album. Texas Pop Festival 1969 @ 6:45 mark [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikefwWt7pas Tanglewood 1970 a different, longer version [video:youtube]

  6. Monty Alexander & John Clayton (1983). A superb duo recording that was out of print. Thanks to #MontyAlexander for the upload. Check out Monty's solo piano performance of Caravan! <--Playlist of album [video:youtube]
  7. "D'yer Mak'er" song by LED ZEPPELIN. It was the "Oh, Oh, Oh" song to me cause I didn't know WTH "D'yer Mak'er" was or how to say it. I guess British slang for Jamaica.
  8. Lush Life - jazz standard from Billy Strayhorn. I played it as an instrumental and thought it was about "living the good life". Then, I heard a vocal recording and realized it's about an alcoholics lament. Never knew the word "lush" was about drunkards.
  9. Level 42 - Estival Jazz Lugano 2010. Still a great funk-groove band. The new drummer is Pete Ray Biggin. Tight rhythm and in-tune vocal harmonies. [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQcGfRT4Tt0
  10. Indigo Jam Unit. From Japan. Nice groove. [video:youtube]
  11. I first met Dick at my college jazz ensemble and he was the clinician/friend of our music director. We read through one of his charts while he conducted. He was quite direct with his critique and he knew his "sh*t". Later, I call the Grove School and Dick answered. I wanted to get the intro course they offered and he said he'll send it to me if I passed the audition question, which was... "What's the first chord you play for Happy Birthday?" I answered correctly and he said you pass! A few years later I was at a jam session and Dick's son Dana sat in and tore it up on guitar.
  12. Lettuce - In the 1990's a bunch of Berklee grads loved the funk and took over the jam scene in Boston. All they said was "Let us play!", "Let us, let us play!". [video:youtube]
  13. Yardbird Suite is what Joe...er...I mean Steve was quoting.
  14. Ugh! I guess both Nice Work and Joy Spring (the bridge gave me a clue). But, Waltz for Debbie! Nice reharm Steve, lol. Dave, did you mean to quote the Andy Griffith Mayberry theme at 40 sec? That kinda sounded like it or a touch of Joyspring. Good test of ones "ears" for both tunes.
  15. Steve I hear several more quotes. You got a great ear, very good improv. All The Things You Are Con Alma Donna Lee I'm Beginning To See The Light In The Hall of the Mountain King Mambo Italiano!
  16. Anyone see them when Jordan Rudess was in the group? TL formed a fusion all-star group with Scott Henderson, Steve Smith, and Jeff Berlin. Recorded live and kickin'! Players
  17. Really liked it. It had a Crusaders vibe. Good solos and the guitar lead worked without being too "chessy"
  18. Great versions of Solar, Carlo and Steve.
  19. Nice playing seacow, Dave F and Leon! This thread keeps getting better. I came across Doug McKenzie's youtube lessons. Another great musican who takes the time to share his knowledge. Having the notation of his playing is really invalubale to me. Here's his sublime version of Bernstein's Some Other Time.
  20. Thanks LB. I liked TFT as well; it had a nice flow to the reharms. Please post another. Carlo, I've listened to "I Concentrate On You" several times and I like how you use the bass-line counter melody with the main melodic line to create two "paths" on the musical journey. You set-up it up with the ostinato vamp at the end that I can anticipate the solos to dig deeper into the tune. Nice arrangement. I wish other forumites would post a tune. There might be a reluctance to do this because you may feel it doesn't measure up to the great tunes so far. These tunes are coming from world-class jazz vet pros. It's great to see how these guys "work a tune". This is a great opportunity to present your stuff. This thread is not limited to solo piano. C'mon, bring it on. Looking forward to more from SK and cnegrad. too.
  21. Very good Carlo. I like the bass pattern motif and pedal on the bridge, kinda Jarrett-like at the end. Dave thanks for posting your stuff, there's a couple of them I missed. Really like your arrangements.
  22. Here's All The Things You Are. Kept a swing groove throughout. I wasn't going to post this becasue I messed up the ending, but I like the rest of it. All The Things You Are
  23. Thanks Dave and viscant.
