  1. I really like his Rhodes playing on Michael Frank's "Popsicle Toes". Really tasty.
  2. Aerosmith's Steven Tyler - Dream On Isaac Hayes Brian McKnight
  3. Trumpeter Don Ellis' cutting-edge big band composition in 5/4 'Indian Lady' is one I played in my college stage band. The hardest one, for me, was a chart in 9/4. It was a ballad, slow tempo and hard to count w/o messing-up. [video:youtube]
  4. Yeah, self-centered sound dudes. I got tired of the same issues at this popular outdoor venue. I asked the soundman, during a break, why is he mixing my level to the point of inaudibility with the crowd. He told me this. I don't like keyboards that "get in the way"; rock is about guitars & drums. So, for the next set I turned my volume completely off and mimed it for one song (band mates indulged me). After that he comes on stage and told me to bring up my volume cause he can't hear me. I told him neither can the audience, so he better make sure they hear me from now on. And, he made the adjustment! My ploy worked and the crowd could now hear me for the rest of the night.
  5. Japanese Kirin Ichiban Malt. Great premium beer.
  6. Kenny Rankin & Laura Nyro - Rare duet recording [video:youtube] A few RnB & Pop duets: Diana Ross & Lionel Richie - Endless Love (I've to play this too many times at weddings!) Peabo Bryson & Roberta Flack - Tonight I Celebrate My Love Patti LaBelle & Michael McDonald - On My Own Boy Meets Girl - Waiting for a Star to Fall Peter Cetera & Amy Grant - The Next Time I Fall
  7. THIS, imo, is the greatest solo synth intro. Jan Hammer & Cobham are "locked-in" with the groove. Impeccable. [video:youtube]
  8. RIP João Though noted for his ground-breaking early work he recorded these two gems in 1977 & 1981. Amoroso - João Gilberto 1977 Full Playlist. The musical arrangements by Claus Ogerman. Brasil - João Gilberto / Caetano Veloso / Gilberto Gil / Maria Bethânia 1981 a collaborative work with some of Brasil's greatest singers. Full Playlist. The musical arrangements by Johnny Mandel.
  9. Thanks dB, Jim, Craig for all your work to make this forum even better.
  10. Smiling Billy Higgins http://www.billiesilvey.com/billy.jpg Oscar Peterson From Wikipedia: "...He released over 200 recordings..." (not counting the many sideman session dates).
  11. Nice arrangement, Josh. You got the 'native-sense' with the rhythm that only a local can play.
  12. 'The Dreams of Children' is my favorite recording of theirs. I didn't like their subsequent releases, boring (like you said).
  13. RIP. Thanks for your lasting legacy. Here's a performance with Johnny Winter. [video:youtube]
  14. Mrs. Malaprop was very upset because of the mistress; it made her frown...until she found it. [video:youtube]

  20. I came across this great recording of Oregon with the Moscow Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra. This was their first recording with an orchestra. All orchestrations are by Towner, McCandless and Moore. Excellent performance. [video:youtube]
  21. Nothing important to say. Oh, wait...uh. Never mind.
  22. Wonderful arrangement. Great singer, as well.
  23. Great track David R. I really like your succinct, yet tasty playing. Marisa Monte reminds me a lot of Rosa Passos.
