Not just close rhymes like "step/skip" but manipulations like stretching the word over the metric lines, as a musical phrase might be stretched over measure lines. It's a great device often used for comic effect. "I couldn't find a rhyme for step I thought that I'd become inept in fact I became skept- -ical that I'd find one accept- -able. Then my friend John gave me a tip that, I must say, seems kinda hep: when in doubt, who needs thes- -aurus?
