techristian
So you probably know of my project to produce some new music with 20-30 year old technology. One of the pieces that I had was an EMU SP12 or SP1200 drum machine that would store samples on a C64 1541 disk drive. I finally got the program and interface working with my PC so that I can read C64 disk directly into a PC, but when I look at EMU disks that I created 25 years ago I only see that the disk is SP12 with no directory listing. Any ideas on how to extract these files? I understand that most of the disks that were sold with my USED unit were from a Nashville recording studio with real interesting sounds. I also made some myself. Since I noticed Craig Anderton as the author of the SP1200 manual, I thought that you might have an idea of what is happening here. Thanking you in advance for any help that you can give me Craig ! BTW I no longer have the SP12. It died one winter from static. Anderton
I really wish I could help, but I sold both my SP12 and SP1200 some time ago. I checked out the Chicken Systems Inc translator, but it doesn't list SP12 or 1200 as a supported format. They do support the Emax II, E3, and E4, but I doubt the formats are compatible. Or maybe they are... The only solution I can think of is to find someone who has a unit, rent it for a week, load your sounds, and grab them from the analog out...sorry I can't be of more help Quote Craig Anderton Educational site: http://www.craiganderton.org Music: http://www.youtube.com/thecraiganderton Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/craig_anderton
techristian
This is the second time that I have heard about Chicken Systems in the last few weeks. It is real cludgy, but I could run a c64 emulator on the PC and use a disk exploring program that can show me sector by sector and then string them together, but that would take some time ! Thanks anyway Craig. Dan Quote TEACHMEDRUMS.COM My Music Videos RED PILL
Nathanael_I
I would talk to Chicken Systems. They have some kind of emulation hardware, or know who makes them that simulates the floppy drive to old tech. If anyone knows how to do it, its them. techristian
Seriously, I'm in music making mode now. Trying to do as little tech as possible. I have enough just trying to get my midi modules on static midi channels and getting them to recognize program change command. And did I mention that most of their batteries are dead? So if I can send SYSEX to get them on the right channels for each recording EVEN BETTER. spokenward
I don't know if you have been down this rabbit hole already, but you might want to take a look at this RaspberryPi project. https://www.c64-wiki.com/wiki/Pi1541 This will give you an overview. The Pi community really embraces retro and emulation projects. https://www.google.com/search?q=raspberrypi+c64+disk+emulation Over here, (I know, YMMV) someone claims success on a similar task. https://www.gearslutz.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-and-electronic-music-production/1130647-emu-sp12-turbo-commodore-64-drive-simulator.html

Chip McDonald
Craig, did you hear Bob Bradshaw giving you credit on the ToneTalk video podcast, for pedal switching systems...?
