EricBarker
As a standing organist, I don't keep my foot on the pedal all the time, only when I think, "Gee golly willikers! Let's Swell!" Mark Schmieder
Anyone know off-hand which EXP pedals work the best with the Sequential Prophet XL? As I left my Moog and Yamaha EXP pedals back in CA and might as well try something new, I re-checked several threads, but didn't want to repurpose the newest one as it was specific to the Kurzweil PC3X. Documentation is scant at the Sequential site and in the user manual. It simply says 0 to 5V range. No impedance or polarity info (maybe on their user forum though?). It looks like the BOSS EV-500L (vs. EV-500H) is probably the best overall unit these days in terms of build quality and flexible settings, but those ones from Mission look interesting as well (and come in a gazillion colours, for those who want to match it to their boutique synth). I'm not really in a rush, but want to qualify for free shipping on an emergency XLR cable order so figured I might as well throw in an EXP pedal so that I have one while here in NC. Mark Schmieder
I might as well re-link this useful chart from an even older expression pedal topic, as it is still pertinent to many current models and even to the most recently discussed Kurzweil PC3X context (though that information is preliminary and contains notes on things to test for followup). https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ueDY9We68ywmSWTJRo8d61rNnBKRtSLAJDnOUllbd1s/edit#gid=0 The Pedal Type column is helpful in saying that DSI synths need wiper-to-tip, so the BOSS FV-500L is compatible with the Prophet XL. Source Audio appears to be the only company that makes an EXP pedal where you can control both the min and the max range. Although too new to be in the chart from 2016-2017, this simple and cheap one from Nektar gets good reviews and has range control as well as a polarity switch: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1402830-REG/nektar_technology_nx_p_expression_pedal_with_switchable.html/reviews Obviously it's a low-risk purchase. And though I love the BOSS FV-500L, it might be overkill for me, as I don't use EXP as much as aftertouch. Mark Schmieder
The deed is done. I didn't see the Nektar pedal in a forum search so maybe I'll be the first one here to test it out. I added the Nectar to the list. If you can provide any missing information let us know and I'll add it. Btw the Source Audio Reflex is discontinued - has been for some time. Added a note for that as well.
