Q: hand/wrist injuries wrt weighted/unweighted/semiweighted

I spent 2-3 hours yesterday working over fairly repetitive passage on a semi-weighted board (Nord E4 SW73). This morning I woke up with a slight carpal-tunnel type throbbing pain in the right wrist. Can keyboard weighting have an effect on this or is it merely my poor technique?

TIA - bradley

Sure - muscles tendons etc. doing work, repetitive work. How long has it been since you played? And how long has it been since you played for that length of time? Was the keyboard set to optimal height, was your posture good and were you playing with a relaxed feeling or with tension? And of course, how old are you and did you stretch a bit, warm up and cool down?

I find the Nord SW actions fatiguing to play because the keys are always "pushing back" at you. I've been meaning to experiment with some lighter springs.

Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)
