  1. Yup. I refuse to buy any amp/cabinet made with horrible, boat-anchor heavy, don't get it wet, glued sawdust, MDF "wood" product. It is possible to make lightweight "actual wood" products and not have them be a fortune. Fun Example: next time in BanjoCenter, lift up a Roland KC-600..... ($849. 200watts. 1x15. MDF cabinet. 64lbs!!!!)... then walk over to the bass department and lift up a Fender Rumble 200.... ($579. 200watts. 1x15. pine/ply cabinet. 34.5lbs).
  2. that was a fault, not a feature!
  3. Worth pointing out that before super-stardom, Elton was an in demand session pianist for a fair amount of big artists' hits including: The Hollies (He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother), Tom Jones (Delilah), Jackson Browne (Redneck Friend), and others. Joel? Not so much, though very early he may or may not (there is some dispute) have played on the Shangri Las (Leader of the Pack/walking in the sand). Fun fact: Elton, believe it or not, was almost the keyboardist/frontperson for both of the prog rock bands Gentle Giant (he got fired early on), and King Crimson!
  4. Love me some Liberace. Dude had a serious left hand when he wanted to:
  5. Whether true or not, i always come away feeling the Joel technical stuff was muscle memory parts he practiced the shit out of and was reciting. Nothing wrong with that, but Elton can get loose as per the MTV clip above. For the Joel lovers, you might appreciate my friend and sometimes Monday night bandmate's little spin on on Billy. you can jump ahead to around 3:45 or so (as long as you stick around past the chorus):
  6. again, no dog in this fight. but if you wanna see someone actually having a blast and enjoying themselves, with no pop trappings/band to hide behind... ignore his by now shot voice, start at around 32:00 stick around for 36:20 onwards:
  7. no dog in this fight, but go to 15:42 (preferably 11:50 for context) if you don't have the time to watch it all:
  8. I used a coffee can for my B4D, but that's a whole 'nuther story.
  9. Sorry to hear. Did you actually try it? While the clamp part is ideally suited to a round mic or keyboard stand, depending upon thickness, I've had no problems using it on a rectangular Z-stand, too. e.g. The little "claw" part grabs the square end and it securely clamps across diagonally (hard to explain). Obviously, YMMV.
  10. Since PA speakers "don't sound as good," are your sound guys using KC400's for the FOH PA mains?
  11. I have one of these as well as the one i linked to above. Couple problems i had with this one: A) you can't adjust it without the wrench. "where did i put the wrench?" Fine for permanent install I guess, but not so much for on-the-fly at a gig stuff. B) For mine (and others' judging by some of the reviews), even when tightened, it very slowly would sag over time with a large heavy IPAD. By slowly I mean the next morning my IPAD is sitting on the studio console instead of up in the air. These things have one job to do, and mine fails at it. C) The large "elbow" of the thing is quite cumbersome and depending upon how you set it up kinda sticks out like a giant sore thumb. If you can get it where you want it and aren't gonna move it at all, i guess it's ok, but i never got along with it. D) The clamp is a little wonky and only works on a right-angled "tabletop-esque" surface. you won't be putting this on a tubular x-stand or a mic stand or a drumset. Mine lives now lives in the studio holding a tablet over my console (with the bottom edge of the tablet resting on the meter bridge so it doesn't sag)
  12. The D-Live S7000 is $50,000, and that's before you add another 5 to 20K for mic preamps, etc. A&H has made serious gear for decades. Much like Yamaha (and even SSL) though, they also have some very inexpensive lines.
  13. Hmmmm. Fwiw: https://www.allen-heath.com/rick-wakemans-journey-continues-with-allen-heath/
  14. fwiw, the CQ-18t and CQ20b both have the same amount of mic pres (16).
