Godin LGSP90 or Exit 22 ?

Probably a question for Guitarzan ;)

I've come accross a secondhand LGSP90 for £150!!

(Not seen it yet, but at that price what a bargain!)

Anyway, from the reviews I've read, this smooth sounding Godin isn't as versatile as an Exit 22.

Is that true?

More to the point, would I appreciate the difference as it's my first electric. (Probably be teaming it up with a Marshall MG30DFX or other £100ish small amp.) I'm limited on budget, but have been impressed by these Godin things since I first came accross the name - so will have to go secondhand route anyway. (Recently missed out on an Exit 22 on Ebay)

Should I just go for it, as it's such a bargain, or hold out for an Exit 22 or Freeway classic (although I doubt I'll get a decent Freeway for less that £200 - unless it's knackered of course!

Any advice appreciated.

It really depends on what type of music you play. The LG SP90 (i have one) probably won't give you metal, high-gain tones. But the rest it does great.

I've tried the Freeway classic and it's somewhat strat like, and that means versatility.

you can get a lot of tones with the 2 p90s and the volume. but in pickups alone the exit is probably more versatile. jangly strat tones are easier to get seeing the exit has 2 regular single coils.

i like my LG sp90 and rarely play much else.

but like the pickups of the exit are probably the more versatile arrangement.

get both. :D

....yeah, and then you'll definitely get the luggage set, holiday for 4, lifetime acheivement award etc ... :D

As I say, I'm only starting out, but love the sounds of SRV, Jeff Beck, Santana, Gilmore, Sonny Black, Al Di Meola (on Album Casino) and a guy called Johnny from Connie Lush & Blues Shouter - he plays a Tele with great style.

Obviously I don't expect to sound like any of 'em, but don't want to end up with a guitar that'll bore me fairly soon - which is why I've not considered a cheapie like a Squire (Although I hear the latest Tele Custom with P90's is pretty good.)

I'm not really into Metal I must admit, so saering notes, tremelo work etc isn't on my list of must have skills.

I guess it comes down to what nick this Godin is in, and as Guitarzan says, I could always get another at a later stage when money permits.

Thanks for the advice so far though folks.

I've demo'ed both, for what as demo is worth. I REALLY wanted the P90's. BUT, the Exit 22 was WAY more versatile. The P90's gave some unique sounds, but if forced to get one or the other, the Exit 22 did more and BTW had AWESOME sound quality.

When I demo'ed the HSS, I demo'ed a more expensive Godin with more pricey PUP's (S Duncan I think). The Godin PUP's performed with better sound, IMHO.

Eek. I didn't. I'm not that aware... yet.

I was thoroughly impressed though. I found myself wishing it didn't have the hump back. But, I got used to my Carvin headstock (too metal-style), so ANYTHING is possible.
