BillWelcome Home Studios Posted August 1, 2004 Share Posted August 1, 2004 I saw Sevendust, Crystal Method, Velvet Revolver, Disturbed, Staind, the Feds, the NERDs, and a handul of other bands yesterday. a few things struck me. 1: There was a blinding, mind numbing sameness to a lot of the music. Obviously, the hits were the hits, but the rest sounded a lot like filler to me. 2. Guitars are back. I see a lot of live music, and I was getting bummed at the bands like this that would show up with turntables and gack. Two years ago this same festival has piles of turntable and sampler setups. This show had almost none of that stuff. I'm a guitar player, and I like to see guitar players wail. Harder music like this is the perfect venue to allow a guitarist to kick ass. 3. For whatever reason, few of the guitar players kicked ass. Some did, most didn't. 4. Slash looks great, healthier looking than I have ever seen him. VR has a serious potential. That potential has as yet not fully jelled. But the sound was not the same as everyone else's sound that day.
