AlChuck Posted July 13, 2004 Share Posted July 13, 2004 Robben Ford's other project, Jing Chi, with Jimmy Haslip on bass and Vinnie Colauita on drums, is now out. Still haven't listened enough to be sure how much I like it -- I was a bit dismayed by one song that just does not have a very good solo at all, and another, a blues tune, "Nobody's Fault But Mine," with Robert Cray singing and trading licks with Robben for what seems like ten or twelve minutes... but then, the closer has some absolutely brilliant moments of instrumental songcraft, and there are other excellent passages throughout... Funk Jazz Posted July 13, 2004 Share Posted July 13, 2004 i wasn't crazy about the first record; for what is such an incredible lineup it sounds like they just threw together the tunes. they obviously have a great time playing together, but the songwriting is lacking IMHO.
