I used to play "Up North" during the winters. Some of the towns I played in would have temperatures exceding -45c. One day, we unloaded the truck into the arena we were playing at and I forgot to wait before opening my guitar case. There was this little puff of blue steam, and seconds later, the guitar looked like a spider had spun a crappy web all over it. Needless to say, we sanded it down and refinished it.

You're right. That does look like ash and it looks like yer typical width contraction. It must have been an El Cheapo finish job to have screwed up that badly or terribly green wood.

Ash looks like.... any natural Stratocaster you've ever seen, or those beautiful Ibanez vine of life guitars, (Bob Weir model for instance)

Ash is intermixed with oak in mass furnature manufacturing because of the similarities in grain, hardness, color & weight!

Like my old Washburn A10.. this is a one set weapon. :D

I still think guitars are like shoes, but louder.
