Rim
I was at GC last week to pick up some things and couldn't help look for the backup amp (to my ADA Viper) I've been wanting to get. I had seen the Flextone III (112) weeks before for around $800 and didn't even try it cuz I don't want to spend that much. Apparently, Line 6 has dropped their prices and it is now going for $500!!! I tried it and I really like the Plexi and Mesa models. Mind you, I've never played through either one of those in real amps but I just liked how they sounded so it's not a matter of purity to me. When I look at guitars, besides build and quality, I see if a guitar inspires me to come up with new riffs right there as I try it. This happened when I was checking out the FlexIII so it's a good sign. Since GC has a 30-day return policy, I'm gonna go and get it right after I post this. I'm gonna get the fancy (expensive) floorboard with the two pedals and hope I can get a decent deal on the two. Since the FlexIII also has models of stomp boxes (with some I don't own), it's very tempting to me to have the amp and the floorboard with nothing else - just one Ethernet (computer network) cable from the floorboard to the amp. How sweet would that be? The floorboard even gets its power from the Ethernet cable! Currently, I have three instrument cables, my amp's footpedal cable and a power cable (from the power strip for my stomp boxes) all velcro'd together between the amp and my homemade pedal effects board. Anyway, I'll let you all know in a few days how I like it. I have band practice tomorrow so I can give it a good test drive. If any of you have comments on this amp, I'd appreciate it! It could help in my decisioin to keep it or not. michael saulnier
It's interesting that Line6 went so far as announcing in a PRESS RELEASE that they are dropping the price on the Flextone III series. I'm curious to hear if that has instantly translated to the retail store level. I couldn't tell from your post whether you heard about the price drop or actually SAW that the price had been lowered at GC. RE: the Flextone III's, they have the same processor as the Vetta series products, so if you like the sound and capability of those... these would be a good value at $500. (I think the big floorboard probably notches that up about $250 or so right?)... I've heard a number of people play with them in band settings, and I think they sound... OK. Certainly useful. Plus considering you have direct outs that could be used for recording and such, it takes the place of a PODxt (around $300 right?)... Let us know what your final "package" price was. Have fun! guitplayer I'm still "guitplayer"! Check out my music if you like... http://www.michaelsaulnier.com
Rim
The price tag is $549 and the guy at GC was gonna give it to me for $500. The floorboard (highest end) is tagged at $399 (I'm pretty sure). Bottom line: I didn't buy it tonight Went there tonight and I wasn't wowed as I was previously. Even tried it with the same gtr as before. No inspiration. The background music was a bit loud but when I tried it before there were other folks trying other amps and one or two were louder than me. I didn't have a pick but I figured a quick strum would still give me a similar sound I heard before. I kept playing, using my index fingernail as a pick, and nada. This has never happened before. Sure, on things I wasn't sure about, but not on things I was ready to buy. I'll have to go back again. aka riffing Double Post music: Strip Down http://rimspeed.com http://loadedtheband.com
