Blue Strat
If you want the Cowboys From Hell sound, I've heard that Dime had to really work with that Randall to get the sound he wanted, then you have to figure in the microphones, the room he was in when the album was recorded, etc. There is no real "plug and play" solution. I do believe that a solid state distortion is a necessity for getting Dime's tone. The gain is cranked up very high! A DOD Death Metal distortion is the best thing I've got to even get close to Dime's tone. I don't think that Dimebag uses a chorus pedal, at least not on distorted parts. The pickups in Dime's guitar is important too. Those Bill Lawrence pickups he used to use, and the Duncan Dimebuckers he uses now are a major component of his tone. BlueStrat a.k.a. Wes from Wpg
Dime has a signature pedal out by Dunlop. It's gotten rave reviews from magazines and Dime himself. I read an interview where he said the original prototype of the pedal (which is the one in production) blew him away because it recreated his sound exactly. doc taz
I use a BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone, with the gain fully cranked. I have the bass knob at about 4 o' clock, the treble at around 2 o' clock, the mid freq knob at 11 o clock, and the mid knob at 9 o' clock. I set the volume just slightly below my clean tone volume. http://www.harmony-central.com/ProductPix/126.jpg All Hail The Metal Zone! http://smilies.crowd9.com/kao/chika/chirol_ozigi.gif sevenstring.org profile my flickr page
