Good Guitar Amp for a Keys Guy

Marvster

Recommended Posts

Well, I've done it. I'm almost 40 years old and I'm learning guitar. As one pal said, "Isn't it a little late to try and impress chics?"

Anyway, I'm learning on a decent Fender American Strat and the only thing I have to play through at the moment is GuitarPort.

Can anybody recommend a basic, affordable amp for a newbie? Something smallish for playing mostly blues and a little rock ... good tone is more important than volume. Chances are miniscule that I'll be playing out.

Thank for any advice!

There have been many similar posts here... you may try searching under "amp" "affordable amp" "favorite amp" and so on...

There are some typical amps mentioned.

Tube amps - favored for their tone quality.

I like Fender. Pro Jr.$250 - $300, Blues Jr. $360 - $400, Hot Rod Deluxe $500 - $550.

- Used amps of these types are often available locally or on e-bay in decent quality for far less.

For solid state amps, I've heard good things about Tech21 Trademark 10, (with sans amp electronics), $190 - $225...

There's also the amp modelers. Some people like the low-end Line6 Spyder $300 - 375, but I would suggest a used Line6 Flextone or perhaps a POD and a keyboard amp. Both are probably available used at modest prices since Line6 has moved to the next generation.

There are lots more choices, but those are the ones I'd look at first.
