Music industry gets sued, you get $20

Recommended Posts

I was pointed to a class action lawsuit against most if not all major record labels and music retailers. This website, http://www.musiccdsettlement.com/english/default.htm , describes how to file a claim and be included in the Settlement Group. It doesn't say much about the lawsuit or when it began, though, just about how to file a claim for the settlement. Apparently these companies are being sued for conspiring to illegally raise the price of CDs, cassettes and vinyl records. If the settlement is approved, everyone who files a claim (you can file one on the website) will get a share of the settlement, up to $20/person. To qualify for the settlement, you must have purchased music in the U.S. between January 1, 1995 and December 22, 2000. You must file a claim on the website by 11:59 PST March 3, 2003, or obtain a paper copy of a claim and postmark it by March 3, 2003. The other part of the settlement is $75,700,000 worth of CDs to be given to non-profit, charitable, government or public entities for music-related purposes.

"And then you have these thoughts in the back of your mind like 'Why am I doing this? Or is this a figment of my imagination?'"

a noble offer, even if paltry and forced.... though i'm eligible (shit, who isn't?) $20 is not worth the mailing lists and marketing assaults that will result from me mailing all my info to them. YMMV
