Meriphew_dup1
The Line6 Delay pedal has backwards guitar on it. www.meriphew.com
dot-dot-dot
Cunning volume-pedal use can yield a backwards sound. But your feet will be very busy. A MIDI sequencer and multiFX system might help, you could have the sequencer do the volume control for you. But the band would have to stay in time, and you'd have to be bang on. A volume pedal is probably the way to go. Squeeze the day! The Monkey FX Page - effect guides and handbuilt pedals
Wewus432
I get that sound with a Boomerang Phrase Sampler which has a Reverse switch. The new ones are a little pricey($450.00) but you might pick up one used for a lot less and of course you can do a lot more than the backwards guitar sound with a phrase sampler. Steevo
Record the track. Reverse it. Practice with your volume pedal and effects to match the reversed track. Play it live.
coyote
Some guitarists use a volume knob in lieu of a pedal. The one thing you cannot get with volume pedal or knob manipulation is that pick-click at the 'end' of the backward guitar note. I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist. This ain't no track meet; this is football. Tedly Nightshade
"The one thing you cannot get with volume pedal or knob manipulation is that pick-click at the 'end' of the backward guitar note." you can fake this with a little string scrape leading up to an abrupt pick click, at the end of each volume swell. There's guys out there who never realized that those guitars on the records were backwards, and just figured it out the way they copped everything else. A WOP BOP A LU BOP, A LOP BAM BOOM! doc taz
I use a cheap DOD GS30 to approximate the "backward" sound. Works great with lots of reverb and delay, and the expression pedal in volume mode. Does take some practice, though, and it might annoy the band mates. sevenstring.org profile my flickr page
