I know, I know....shameless self promotion but is that so wrong? I (Keith Howland) have just finished a new CD with our (Chicago) drummer Tris Imboden. It's sort of a rock/jazz/fusion all instrumental record that features many of our fellow Chicago bandmates and a host of other great musicians. Most importantly though....LOTS of guitar! Anyway, to find out more visit http://keithhowland.com or to purchase the Cd go to http://www.cdbaby.com/howland or http://www.earbuzz.com/howlandimboden . You can check out free mp3 files through www.keithhowland.com as well. It makes a great Christmas gift for all your guitar playing friends!

YIKES! Ordinarily, I'd be putting on my Viking hat, but it so happens that Chicago's been one of my favorite bands since the first Transit Authority album, through all the personnel changes and all...and, I've gotta admit, the late great Mr. Kath is one of my all time heroes...both guitar wise and vocally...

Hey, Keith, answer me a Chicago related question, would ya?

Did Misters Pankow, Parazaider, and Loughnane play the horn break on that Matchbox 20 tune "When You're Gone"? Stylistically, it screams "Chicago". Inquiring minds wanna know...

That was indeed NOT the Chicago horns although Matchbox 20 did admit that they were going for that sound. They also said that if they had thought that the Chi horns would have said yes to playing on the track that they would have asked. I have it on high authority that the guys would have willingly played on the track had they been asked. Guess they (M20) sort of lost out on that one!

(Homer voice) D'OH! They indeed lost out, and yet, quite a homage to the powerful influence Chicago has had over the years. And, actually, the horns on the Matchbox 20 CD did an awesome job of replicating the sound. Fooled me, that's for sure!

Hey, I'll be sure to check out your CD. Drop by the forum once in awhile, us weekend warriors (speaking strictly for myself) like to hear from you pro folks every now and then. Michael Manring's dropped by the bass forum, and others. Quite cool.
