LAPetrarca
Thought it was very good. One of the most noteworthy things, in my mind, is how the audience "came alive" once The Who took the stage. Seems all the "new" stars got their applause but, it took the true giants of the real music business to get the crowd going! Just my opinion. What about you? TAZZ
WOW, Townshend STILL kicks SERIOUS BUTT!!!!!!! What was the extra knob on both of his Strats? (just above the output jack). Yeah, the crowd went nuts when Daltry/Townshend did their antics! Enjoyed it MUCH!
Tedster
I only saw a brief bit...Paul McCartney doing "I'm Down". It was good to see him, although, he shouldn't have chosen that particularly challenging song to sing. He's not quite the spring chicken he was. But, it looked like he was having fun, up there playing his Hofner...and fronting a power trio no less. That's about as far as I got...and my wife gave me this really rare look and the night took a different turn...WHOA!!! It was time to turn off the TV... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif (They don't have a smiley face looking satisfied and smoking a cigarette, do they?) Lisa
I thought the show was really good. I think the reason that the more established (don't want to call them "older"!!!!) artists were more appreciated was due to the fact that it was a more mature crowd - mostly over 30, not a teen crowd. Townshend was great and Jagger and Richards rocked too. They've still got it! Poor Melissa Etheridge had a few technical problems with her mic going out and then her guitar going out of tune. I must commend her for the way that she handled things! I don't know if too many others doing a solo performance during a show like that would have dealt with it as casually as she had and not let it affect their performance. Hats off to Paul McCartney for putting it all together!!!
jflush
I thought the "comic relief" aspect of this thing was tasteless. George Bush impersonator doing Bin Laden jokes? I turned the tv off during the Adam Sandler routine ... I guess I just wasn't in the mood. Good cause though. Later I saw the WHO performance on tape! I could never get enough PETE ! Every time he rocks out on the strat, I'm hoping the song will go on forever! Nice reminder why THE WHO are my favorite band!
Scott from MA
I turned it on at the point where Melissa Etheridge was wandering around the stage strumming 3 chords over and over. I said, "What the hell is this?" Then I realized she was having mic trouble. I agree, Lisa... she handled it well. Too bad the stage crew wasn't more on the ball... they should have run another mic out as soon as that one went dead. Saw The Who... they were great. Wish they could have done a few more songs. Then Jagger & Richards came on. I heard about half of their first song and shut it off. Sorry folks, but I can't stand Jagger's voice.
