how stupid is this?

by now you've no doubt seen the ads for or heard about the samson Airline wireless unit. the really small one. the transmitter comes in two variations. a right angled plug to fit les pauls and a straight one to fit into a strat. here's the stupid part. neither one will work on a telecaster! (a tele has that recessed jack) i guess the bright folks over at samson figured that a telecaster wasn't a very popular guitar... sorry keith, sorry bruce, sorry james burton!

d gauss,

I don't think it's that the Tele isn't popular...

It's that anyone so "old school" to use one, shouldn't be expected to use a wireless!!! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

BTW, I think the whole thing is a joke anyway... The whole concept is weird... a wireless unit that only works on one kind of guitar?

Whenever I use my wireless unit, I don't mind hooking the device to my strap... I don't see the advantage of their approach. And I am proud to count several tele's in my guitar collection... "twang me!"

Oh well... there's always room on the scrap heap.

I'm still "guitplayer"!

It's not that the two styles of transmitters only work on a single type of guitar, Strat or Les Paul. I had to do a quick change on a gig this weekend after breaking a string mid-song and pop'd the AirLine from my main Strat and switched to my Les Paul to finish the song. The swap was effortless and I was back in the groove in no time. Once I get my second transmitter for the Les Paul, it will be even easier to make the swap. I keep my Tele at the office and therefore never tried the AirLine on it. Thanks for the head's up on that one... I'll be thinking twice about taking the Tele as a backup to the next gig.

You could just use an extension-jack to plug into the Tele. Something like this:

(Ideally it would be mono-to-mono. This one is stereo-to-mono... but it would still work.)

Of course, it would stick out from the guitar a little bit... you would just have to be careful not to whack it on anything.
