michael saulnier
I tend to prefer hard shell "factory" cases whenever possible. I have a nice padded "gig bag" for one of my lower cost guitars, but I'm not sure I'd trust my PRS in ANY soft case in the back of a car or van with the rest of the PA and other gear. guitplayer I'm still "guitplayer"! Check out my music if you like... http://www.michaelsaulnier.com
Lee Flier
My favorite case is the sorta tweedy one for my Les Paul. It is apparently not the original 1952 case, but very close - like '54. It looks it, too! It is just the funkiest case you'll ever see. But alas, I fear that if I use it much longer it will fall apart, plus it has ceased to provide a level of protection for my baby that's comfortable to me, so I really should get a new hard shell case for it. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/frown.gif Besides the fact that I'd have to retire my favorite case, another thing I am not looking forward to about getting one of the newer Gibson padded cases is that I know from past experience that if you leave one open, a cat will curl up in it and never come out. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif --Lee
Scott from MA
I buy SKB hardshells for the guitars I build. All the others have hardshells that came with them, except my 12-string acoustic which has a chipboard case. Tedster
I like a case (for a solidbody or thinline) that kinda flares at the bottom, so when you set it handle up for a second (I try to lay them flat when possible), you can't knock it over. Hardshell to be sure... "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

DC
I've got mostly just those leather covered Fender styles, but I kinda like the fiberglass cases cos they're light. Lee, my cats get in any of my cases that are left open, doesn't matter what kind it is. I think it's just a cat thang... -David http://www.garageband.com/artist/MichaelangelosMuse
