Idea for used guitar picks...

You know, as a goof (or maybe partly because sometimes I'm a cheapskate), I take used picks that are worn down in at the ends and stick them in 1 of my wallet's secret pockets. I keep maybe 3-5 at once. This way when another guitar or bass player asks you for a pick you can reward their laziness with 1 of your crappy picks. I did it again this past Wed. at a gig and I always get a chuckle out of it. Maybe I have a warped sense of humor because to that particular bass player I look like a hero...

Man....I don't know what used guitar picks are!!! They're either lost guitar picks....or new guitar picks! I usually buy about 20 at a whack every four or five months. I try to leave them at places like our rehearsal space, studio, buddies houses, etc just so I'll have one JUST IN CASE! : )
Down like a dollar comin up against a yen, doin pretty good for the shape I'm in

I think I'm the only guitar player who FINDS picks, and doesn't lose them. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif (Most of the time I finger pick without fingerpicks. Nails only. Occasionally I use them on electric or acoustic.)

I haven't HAD to buy a pick in almost 15 years! I've bought unique designs for experimentation, but I certainly didn't need them. I now have a small tackle type box filled with a variety of pics. Mind you, I don't collect celebrity picks much, so these are not collected for a collection! Just can't seem to use or lose 'em!

HEY, Lisa! I'm already making guitar pics out of old credit cards and HMO cards. The embossed lettering makes for great non-slip surface, plus, my NAME is on some of the picks!! Let some no-good, thievin' guitarist try and walk with THOSE picks! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Just make sure you don't accidentally use one of your active credit cards as a "signature pick" and then throw it out into the audience as a souvenir.... Hmmmm..... Then again, if you do decide to start using active cards, please let us know!

Cute, but it won't work.. I cut them to the classic guitar pick shape. Not enough numbers or magnetic info on one pick to let you buy gear with them!

Anyway, if I throw the picks I use into the audience it's going to get V-E-R-Y M-E-S-S-Y! (I usually use my fingernails! Ouch! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/eek.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif )

Shim Stock!!! Excellent, Rick! I gotta remember that, that is, if I don't lose them first.

I use Dunlop Tortex 73's. Use 'em on electric, acoustic, and on my roundwound strung Ric. I can't remember the last time I wore one out...

Plus, no one can steal them, as they have an excellent 'memory'. If I use one for more than half an hour, they bend to fit only MY fingers.

That's probably the BEST thing to do with any f^#%ing credit card.

No joke, Ted! LMAO anyway! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Here are a few of my "masterpieces."

http://members.aol.com/neilbergmn/gp

The silver one and the "insert and remove" picks were hotel keys.. from two DIFFERENT times! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

The Nation's Bank cards were debit cards. The purple and orange were a credit card. The white "credit cards" are actually HMO cards. I know you guys will get a kick out of what's written on them! The artistic looking one was an AT&T calling card.

The dark green one (hard to tell color, it's textured, top, left) was cut from the top of an outdoor furniture, end table which cracked. It works well. Very thick, I just tapered the tip.

Anybody else have some homemade monsters of pics?

Actually, I'm a pretty awful flat picker, so I'm always trying to find a more comfortable pick to use. But yes, if I don't stop this insanity I'll have to start selling them!
