Well ummm.... errrrhhhh... actually we did have a really nice time, and believe it or not the conversation didn't even get unbearably intellectual. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'm, uhhh, going to bed now so I'll have to report more tomorrow.

OK, OK guys, calm down! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Here's what happened: Chip and I met up at Fellini's Pizza and had a nice meal and shot the bull for a couple of hours. Then he came over to my place to check out the studio! And he promptly fell in love with my.... Telecaster. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif He jammed on it for a little bit and it was great to hear him play!

As if you all didn't know already, Chip is a really cool dude! We talked a lot about music and guitars and how weird musicians can be and how weird everybody on these forums are. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Well, except for you guys on the Guitar Forum, of course! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Anyway we had a great time and it's so cool to put a face with a name! And I hope we do it again soon!

FELLINI'S pizza?!?!?! Could you POSSIBLY make this easier for us to jump into the gutter? http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

There was an old George Carlin bit about the subliminal messages in advertising. He's talking about some cigarette ad on TV (from a 1969 album, if I remember correctly) where a train goes into a tunnel. His comment:

"You don't have to be Fellini to figure THAT one out!"

Took a couple of years before I was old enough, and knew who Fellini WAS, to know what Carlin was talking about! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

..well of course, after we got thrown out of Fellini's there was the incident at the Nagoya Sushi bar and Building Supply Store, then of course Layla licked me and..

...no, I'll stop there...

It was great fun finally meeting Lee; given the.... tenuous weight placed upon The Event apparently, one tries to decompress a situation. My way of doing this was by being half-asleep (I tried taking a nap on the drive there, but the honking of car horns kept me awake). I'm sure Lee has a much more enlightened notion of my seemingly quizzical posting nature now, having witnessed the real-time version of this somambulent rambling.

SALACIOUS BITS THE PEANUT GALLERY MAY APPRECIATE:

It was easy to spot Lee prior to actually meeting her: Mercenary Audio t-shirt....

Curiously, the people at the table behind Lee seemed to have the Rolling Stones on their mind, interestingly minor synchronistic occurence...

After eating, I made a detour to buy a front tire for my bike that isn't available in my home town. Upon leaving the bike shop I found myself on the phone with Lee getting directions; though I've been to this place at least 10 times I almost caused an accident in the parking lot, as I *thought* I saw a large

sign advertising Pro Tools in an adjacent parking lot - and stopped traffic in the parking lot. Turned out to be a cool little place called... hmm. (I suck at names..) Magic Audio? Anyhow, at Lee's suggestion I looked in to find they have what amounts to a Manley ad inside, among other interesting bits... Cool.

Then, while trying to find Lee's place with her on the phone, I'm calling out landmarks... and spot what appears to be a sign advertising an apartment complex. I *thought* it *looked* like the sign said "Audio Forest".. "hahaha, there's the Audio Forest apartment complex"... turns out it's a stereo shop called The Audio Forest. So now I know where _the_ Audio Forest is,odd.

Lee's basement was almost exactly as I pictured it, save the outboard gear.

She played me a nice live recording she made of a band featuring a drummer she now is apparently playing with, sounds like a (as I thought of it) "controlled" Keith Moon. She became a bit animated listening to this playback: she's really into drummers I suspect. At this point I asked to hear some of what she's been working on, but she professionally declined....

She has a great Pro Reverb... I like light Telecasters for a certain type of playing, and hers is one of the lightest I've played. Really easy to do certain touch-sensitive things with. Heavy Teles just sound twangy and Dukes of Hazzard-ish; hers doesn't.

I hope I didn't offend the sensibilties of my hostess while playing her guitar; I tend to sort of zone out when I hold a guitar and in retrospect I probably should have handed it back sooner, uhg.

Nice Gretsch kit as well, coated Aquarians, Zildjian New Beats... the right stuff..

... and of course the obligatory Keef poster on the wall.

------------

Yeah, we talked about you guys - what'd you expect? Nothing bad I assure... I think we agreed this Forum is an interestingly amusing and potentially educational hang out of sorts. I should have let Lee pick a place to meet, I don't know what I was thinking - "consistent tea and cheap decent pizza"... Noisy environment and flies while sitting outdoors. Sorry Lee - particularly when she lives near a veritable menagerie of potentially interesting ethnic eateries. Duh. Lee endured my hopelessly long regale of a ridiculous incident that almost prevented me from going, and we talked about a variety of miscellaneous sundry things.

Sorry, nothing tawdry to report - not that we'd tell you guys, right Lee? Nudge nudge, a nudge is as good as a wink to a blind bat, say no more say no more!

Just kidding.

However, the part about Layla licking me was true. I could insert an extreamly bad and tasteless joke here at Lee's expense, but I'll refrain.

Layla is one of Lee's cats, you see. Bada-bing!

I hope I didn't bore/annoy Lee too much, it was fun to not have the cyber-delay imposition for a change. Lee seems as thoughtful in person as online, focused and passionate about music as one would expect. A fun and interesting day!

"Is she into Pho-tog-raphy?" he said to him knowingly.

To quote a 20+ year old Steve Martin routine, "That pussy was the best *%$#^ I ever had!"

So in the end, someone else was able to put an extremely bad and tasteless joke here. (So-ooo-rry, Lee. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif )

Now now, Chip. I had a fun day too! My only criticism is that you are far too hard on yourself. I certainly don't mind you playing my guitar, I like pizza, and I enjoy your "ramblings". So quit worrying about it! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

And I do apologize for declining to play you any of my stuff... but it's not at all finished, ya know... and at this point I may re-cut some of the basic tracks seeing as I have this killer new rhythm section! I am not in a hurry, since I am not beholden to labels or studio budgets, so I just wanna have fun and do everything right!

Oh yeah folks, and Chip also got to play with my new Vox Tone Bender which you all know I found through this forum. With the Tele, and the Pro Reverb with the Bright switch on, it sounds exceptionally nasty! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif As Chip can attest.

Anyway Chipster, I do hope you'll come back again and I'd be happy to turn you on to some cool Asian food.

Yeah, that makes sense. I turn my projects upside down on a whim based on "available resources"...

A very "angry" pedal. Play a note and "fuzzzzierrhhhhhhhhhhhssssszzzzz". Play the same note again the same way and "ffZZZZZZZhhhrshshrsrhssssss".

Reminds me of something off of _Beckola_, but I can't think exactly what... sort of like the "Satisfaction" "bernnph bernph" sound with more intermod distortion in the bass.

It will be interesting to hear what you do with it... Or what it will let you do, that is, since it seems to have a mind of it's own.

"I attest".

Lee apparently prefers those in your face "you WILL notice what I'm doing" types of rock and roll sounds. Cool Pro Reverb, I love those amps, they have the low end sort of like a Twin but the "ziittthhhhh" break up in the high end like a Deluxe.

Anyway Chipster, I do hope you'll come back again and I'd be happy to turn you on to some cool Asian food.

Yes! Of course, despite wanting you to pick a place in that ethnic corridor, I am so curious about the Nagoya sushi bar that I'm going to have to find an excuse to go there...

ASIDE FOR THE UNINITIATED:

I hadn't noticed this place before, but if you can imagine a fairly large, new and modern looking restaurant sitting right off a major highway in what appears to be "the Sticks" - only surrounded by a Baptist church, a hunting supply store, and I think a transmission place.... complete with dualies and construction worker trucks parked out front... The sign in front is one of those large generic flourescent-back-lit extruded carbonate types "Nagoya Sushi"... It's too strange. It would appear to be a "Redneck Sushi Bar", but.. "?????"... Interesting...

Yeah. I love that about it! As opposed to say, samples, or digital modeling, where you know for a fact the same note is going to sound the same damn way every damn time. I like to take the animist view of gear: it has a soul of its own, and I like to think I am having a dialogue with my instruments rather than just imposing my will on them.

But I'm weird that way. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yeah, that does sound too bizarre to pass up, we'll definitely have to check it out! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
