Tele me about it!

The Nashville Tele thread here got me thinking about the Tele and its impact...

Although they're not for "everyone", Tele's have had a huge impact on the music scene. I've found people to have pretty strong opinions about them... either loving or hating them...

Besides the Tele "Masters" like Danny Gatton, Roy Buchannon, Keith Richards, Muddy Waters, and others who are "known" for their Tele's, other players like Jimmy Page for example were long time Tele players. (In fact, the 1st Led Zep album was recorded with a Tele into a Supro amp!)

How about you... Do you Tele like it is?

Yeah they are the mack daddy's for a variety of genre's, and my two Tele's stay in tune better than any other guitar I own (non high falutin trem lockin dive bombing allen wrench dependent mo fo). Simple and effective...

I have a butterscotch '68 Tele and love it. My "main squeeze" is the 52 Les Paul of course, and I can get ALMOST any tone I want out of that. But for certain things there is no substitute for a Tele. If nothing else, the way you can manipulate the volume and tone and pickup switch really easily while playing opens up a whole range of possibilities that don't exist on a lot of other guitars. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif But I love the differences in tone you get between a Gibson and a Fender. I could never really cozy up to a Strat, but the Tele is just cool. It's a guitar you can really beat up and it will like it. It's like the 57 Chevy of guitars - nothing fancy about it, but it will take a beating and still get you where you want to go, and you can still impress all your friends with it. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Tele's Rule! Love Strats for the Wammy and the added variety of sound but my first electric was a Tele (I idolized Jeff Beck in the Yardbird days) and I still want more Telecasters!.

I've got four Teles and I love them all. I've got a '70, '72, '80s Reissue Rosewood Tele and a '52 Reissue.I think that Teles are great guitars and are highly underrated! If you've never played one, you definitely should check one out.

Yup... I'm a Tele fan too. Got a few. I just find them to be really comfortable... especially the neck. Got one that I put Strat pickups in for a wider range of tones. In the process of building one now that's gonna have P-90's in it.

I also used to use a friend's thinline... man did that guitar sound great! Don't know why I never picked one up for myself. Hmmm... maybe it's time for a trip to the store! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

I played a Strat for years but I bought a Tele three years ago and it's my No. 1. Its sound is direct. It responds to my rhythmic style of playing. I think a Tele matches well through a 4 X 10 Bassman.

Tele's can be bright and twangy but you can make them rock and roll. You can roll of some treble in the tone pot or even rolling of a little volume (like with a Strat) can tame the brightness a touch.

Keith Richards has been heavily into Strats for at least 20 years. Jimmy Page played them a lot in the studio notwithstanding many live shots with a Les Paul. Lead guitar on Stairway to Heaven: Tele.

Just crank your amp and forget about pedals.

I absolutely HATED everything about Telecasters forever until the day I saw mine hanging on the guitar shop wall. Its been my favorite guitar ever since!

One thing that really amazed me: This is the most versatile guitar I've ever owned! I cant believe the variety of sounds that can come out of this guitar?!?!
