Guitar Forum Compilation CD?

In Ed and Chris's Producer Round Table forum they're discussing creating a cd of forum member submissions. They've had a big response, and it's an interesting idea...

here's the link: Here's the link: http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/Forum13/HTML/000234.html

On Dave's Keyboard Corner they've also kicked around the idea of doing something like this... Here's the link:

I know guitar players are both technically inept, and basically lazy, but maybe we could either be a part of THIER fun, or maybe start up one of our own...

WHAT 'YA THINK?

Ah, heck...I'm in if this comes to fruition. As a matter of fact, I'm presently working on a CD at Chapman Studios here in ol' Kansas City. I'm not gonna set the world afire with my DiMeola-isms or Malmsteenisms, but I have fun with my slap-happy itshay...

Could be fun! Rick

Does sound like fun: post the backing as an MP3 on MP3.com, let everyone download it, re-up it somewhere as a stereo file - one side the new guitar, one side the original backing for sync purposes.

Then comes the debate as to "what *is* the backing track...

I'm in! I have trouble writing complete, full band songs. I love to flesh out other people's basic tracks, though! Bring it on. I'd suggest we vote on what the basic tracks should be, but, MY GOD MAN! We'd have a riot! Therefore, the original poster and the guy with the interpretation idea (Rosepappy?) can fight it out!

I'd also be interested if this ends up as a simple, everyone contribute a track project.

Guitplayer,

All my stuffs in Fostex wav file format right now, but I'll run It over to my little bro's studio and have him load and post it in mp3?

What works for you? Got one eerie thing breaking to a crunch fest..... I'll lay it down on the yairi 12, gets the basic idea across and opens the door for the brothers with lec-tric-it-e to paint it up?

Well, I like the idea of reinterpreting a backing track, but, someone will invariably lay down some flamenco-meets-Metheny rhythm track and ol' blues-face Tedster'll be about as lost as a flea on a bearskin rug. Now I'd better shut up. I'm giving all you prog heads too many ideas.

I see Chip and Simon over on Rogers' Forum from time to time, Rose is going to REC this summer for their 12 cred. hr course so she'll have some interesting ideas, but if ya think about it, we could elect a "last word" to oversee the project.

Simon is the only one I know that's currently producing professionally. I would not wish to impose on his current workload, but......

We could all submit ideas, Simon could pick one, post it, the rest of us apply our tools to it and re-post. I know many of us have drums and bass and strings and vocals and brass and, and, and,!!!!!!!!!

I have a feeling that, there are plenty of cool ideas amoungst us. It could be that Simon is destined to become the I- age Parsons.

Wow! there's another idea ala the Poe or Turn of a friendly card realm. We could pick a topic of unilateral concern, and each write a programatic piece. Tell a story. It's what we all do anyway!

Everyone could just submit a composition of limited length. However - there is redundancy involved in this since one could do this over at MP3.com right now.

HOWEVER -

what might be cooler would be if we pick a simple chord progression (like a boring G C D. What's the matter, *you* can't come up with something interesting with those 3 chords? ) and a tempo (110-120 bpm probably), and let everyone try to come up with 32 bars. After the fact a Chosen Person could splice the parts into a composite whole to make One Long and Grand Piece of music. Innevitably the varying styles would lend some sort of artistic curve to the whole thing if sequenced "right".

Or maybe do this "in addition to" everyone's regular entry if they choose to do so, just for fun...
