Ampeg ?

Recommended Posts

This is my first post in the guitar forum...

I am always looking for stuff to my recording studio and have been offered an Ampeg J-12T 15watt class-A guitar combo. It is probably 3-5 years old but has never left the shop so it is in perfect shape and I really like the sound, but I would not be playing it so I need your help. Would this amp be attractive to recording guitarplayers?

A lot of the bands bring their own marshalls and other similar amps to this studio, very often those amps dont deliver great clean sound IMHO. Sometimes when overdubbing there is a need for other sounds, often clean and vintage-ish.

Would be very glad for any helpful advice.

Whatever gave you the idea that an Ampeg sounds clean? http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I haven't heard the particular model you're talking about, but I've played Ampegs my whole life, they're my favorite amp, and yes they are cleaner than Marshalls (which I consider a good thing) but they aren't cleaner than much else. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

If you want a good clean recording amp, try a Fender Princeton, Deluxe or Vibrolux. The smaller Ampegs are great for getting a big, grungy sound in the studio though, because you can crank them up and make them SOUND big even though they are small. I would say if it sounds good and you can get it for a good price, go for it. Guitarists may well end up liking it for some stuff.

Ampegs rock baby. I play a 66 Reverberocket II. It is the cleanest amp I've ever played. I tried one of the superjets recently. I had to go to 8 to get dirty. Lee, you must have tried some with wore speakers or something. Ampegs blue diamond amps are the cleanest tube amp there is. I've played through 30 or 40 of them at different times and they are so clean at times, it is hard to sound like a rocker. Get the Jet dude. You won't be sorry.
