Ever get Intimidated?

I was just wondering if you guys(sorry girls), have ever met a girl who's really good at guitar and that made you feel a little, ... well intimidated or self-conscious. Any feelings of "not being a man". Hyuk Hyuk. Please feel free and elaborate with stories and sound effects.

I wish you guys wouldn't feel that way. I have had that happen a couple of times, where a guy I liked got intimidated and didn't want to go out with me because he got insecure and preferred to go with some bimbo instead. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/frown.gif

Girl guitar players need love too! If you feel intimidated, just ask the girl out anyway, what have you got to lose! If she says yes, you have to trust her that she really does like and respect you as a player or she probably wouldn't have said yes in the first place. As soon as you start to doubt that, you end up with some bimbo and she ends up alone. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/confused.gif .

Nope... But I wish I had...Well not that I would feel intimidated or self-conscious, but can honestly say I have never met (in person) a "non-rhythm" female guitarist...

Maybe they are all Catholic http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/cwm/uhoh.gifhttp://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/cwm/eek3.gifhttp://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/cwm/erm.gifhttp://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/cwm/eek5.gif

Take it easy, Lee!!!

It happens that I fall for girls who play guitar...

The better she plays, the more attracted I am to her...

So not all of us like that blond bimbo type of girls

If it sounds god, just play the darn thing

Well, that is nice to hear Mile. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif I know not all guys are like that. Drummers usually like me. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I was really trying more to give some encouragement to guys that are insecure - most women don't need to be "impressed" nearly so much as guys think they need to impress us. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Just be passionate about your music, and about life, and be nice to us, and the COOL women will dig you!

KHAN - I am not Catholic. Too bad we probably could never tolerate each other's record collections! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Simon, don't think for a moment that I can't see right through that ..."Who?....Little ol' Me?"...smokescreen. You're laying it on a bit thick me thinks. http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/fk/cheer4.gif

Also, I don't think my "irresistable 'giffs' " stand a chance against those sweet, homey British phrases you turn with such ease and grace. http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/fk/green.gif ....

EXAMPLES:

1. Extremely underhanded and not exactly cricket if you ask me....

2. Now listen here chaps.

Gotta go bye byes now busy day tomorrow going for a spot of the old accupuncture...... (should be tickety boo.)

3. Take care everyone. Toodle Pip (bye bye)

4. Now then Khan

You've done it again haven't you?

5. Khan

( Hmmmm.... Scratches chin takes another drag of the old ciggy and looks perplexed!!)

6. you guys could use some serious professional help.....hic...( i'll be fine when I've finished the bottle!!!!)

7. Far be it from us on the other side of the pond, to indulge ourselves in this unmitigated crawling,,,,,, But hey in the spirit of good international relations.......

SMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCH..........

Lisa, a beautiful name.... it rolls of the tounge..... a sweet caress......I'm gonna name all my guitars Liiiisaa and my children and my childrens children.... ooooooooohhhh!!

To answer the original question, I think I get intimidated to a certain degree by anyone who blows my socks off, man, woman, beast (I bet Khan could find a "gothic monster playing guitar" gif). I enjoy hearing anyone who can really play well, but I think it's human nature...well...

Let's say I'm at a jam night. The people (male or female) get up there and do an okay job. I'm slated to go on right after this person. They get up there and absolutely blow smoke..KCFD on hand with fire extinguishers to put out the fretboard. Well, I think that's gotta be intimidating to anyone, no matter how much they say it's not. Be that person male or female.

No way man... Just get up there and switch the vibe!!! Change from blistering to something a little slower and moodier and just play the notes with all the feel you can muster...... Had this happen one time, i really thought I was gonna die.... But hey, no way, I switched into a slower mood kinda vibe, turned on the old vibrato... big style... and just played with feel and melody..... brought the house down... no sweat!! ( OK I'll admit it I got away with it, haha, I sh***t myself sideways before I got on stage... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/redface.gif )

Now here's the keyboard player sticking his nose in the guitar forum again... ;-)

To answer the original question, I think I get intimidated to a certain degree by anyone who blows my socks off, man, woman, beast (I bet Khan could find a "gothic monster playing guitar" gif). I enjoy hearing anyone who can really play well, but I think it's human nature...well...

Well, technical ability doesn't always equate to how impressed the audience was, or how much they enjoy your music (the most important part IMHO)

But I do admit to being intimidated quite often.

Case in point. I went to a party the other day. So this guy has a piano, same age as me, people ask him to play, and the guy's killer with classical pieces. I want to run out of there before someone remembered that I play piano (not very well, my background was organs then synthesizers). But everyone else is so so impressed (bunch of mid 20's late 20's not too keen on classical music)

But before I could do anything about it this girl remembered that I played. So I go and play some popular licks from 80's songs, and people start singing along. (I always get a kick playing 'video killed the radio star' to see if someone recognizes it) 15 minutes later no one remembers the other guy. So later, I'm leaving the party with this girl and she says 'wow, that was so cool, I didn't know you played so well'.. and I go 'yeah, but the other guy blew me away, he was so much better'.. and she goes 'really??'. And this has happened to me before.

Ok, going back to the original question, I don't think I've ever been intimidated by a women/girl playing, just based on that fact. If they play better than me (not very hard to do!), then I'm intimidated regardless of the sex. And to conclude...

The better you play the more attractive you become....

Absolutely! I second that.

He,he,he,he....

Nice idea... Classic,a???

So, maybe it works the other way too!?!

Maybe I should take my classic guitar and play sth from Tarrega or Lobos (maybe Tarrega's "Recuerdos De La Alhambra" or Albeniz's "Asturias" would do?????) Or maybe De Lucia's "Rio Ancho"???

That should definitely do the trick....

If it sounds god, just play the darn thing

If you can play that stuff, Mile, my hat's off to you. I have a lot of respect for classical players. I don't have the discipline.

And don't feel bad, Rod. I post on dB's Keyboard Corner all the time.

Yeah, I can play that stuff...

I went to music school where, what else, I played classical music...

After six years of classic I started with all other stiles: from rock, to jazz, from blues to country...

I'm in love with the sound of classical guitar...

think about playing some flamenco tunes and all those techniques: rasguado and stuff...

It just melt my heart...

Sorry, I got carried away...
