g05
alright, here's a question for all you pros out there! i just recently bought a used mackie 1604 for my little home setup and when i finally plugged in all my toys into it, i immediately heard the crunchy static while adjusting the faders. i know this must be a common problem, especially for everyone else out there who has bedroom setups. someone suggested spraying that special electronics spray into the little fader slots, but i'm not to sure if that's a good idea. i tend to get a little nervous spraying anything into my equipment. any suggestions on how to get rid of the "crunchies"? geoff. Rod S
Actually, I have a similar question. My tascam m08 mixer makes buzzing noises on the headphone output (one channel only). Everything else works fine. Problem sometimes goes away if I touch the edge of the connector with my fingers. Grounding problem? What to do ? Llarion
Cleaning the pots and sliders is the ONLY way to get rid of the crunchies. They make special lube/cleaning sprays that work FANTASTIC at this...It's also a good idea to get a graphite plug and socket cleaner/lube stick, it has a graphite 1/4" plug shaped end and a 14" socket lined with graphite. Makes your cords and inputs clean, connected, and suprisingly "April-fresh" smelling... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ Cheers! Rod S
I checked my mixer again last night. Here are the symptons: It only buzzes where there's audio going through it It stops you put pressure on the connector against the socket. As if there's a loose fit somewhere. The connector on the tascam looks like its tight against the casing. I know it's not the headphones, because 3 different pair of headphones do the same thing, and the headphones work well elsewhere. I tried cleaning the connector 'socket' with just air, didn't help. What products should I use? Llarion
Here is the Conductool jack and cable cleaner... http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemID=16445&TempID=1&Method=2&CategoryID=0&BrandID=0&PriceRangeID=0&PageNum=0&Word1=Graphite&SortMethod=2 The spray pot cleaner is called ProGold G5 from CAIG, and was $19.99 at Sam Ash as well, they don't have it on the web. I prefer April Fresh to Lemon Fresh, because we eat too many lemos around here.. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ Cheers! g05
thanks for the link! so let me get this straight. the fader slots are actually called "pots"?
Llarion
"pot" is short for potentiometer, and a fader, be it a knob or slide mechanism is technically a pot, though it's most commonly associated with knobs. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif Never smoke your pots... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Cheers!
