The Game Is Over

Dave Bryce

Recommended Posts

Someone once wrote that discretion is the better part of valor - far be it from me to argue with that.

When I started the flame war contest, I figured that given the guidelines that the flames were supposed to be "entertaining", and that "the participants would vote for each other", I figured that it would be pretty much good clean fun, and no one would risk severely offending people since it would seem to me that was the sort of thing that would make sure that no one would vote for you. By and large, I think that I was right.

The majority of the posts that I have seen since I started the contest last Friday have been pretty darn entertaining, and pretty clean. There have been a few instances where some of the posts have...shall we say...pushed the envelope, but I have not checked or edited any of them because it's a free country, and you should be allowed to express yourself in any way that you see fit and want to represent yourself. If people want to flame by spewing profanity, so be it...I've never used that sort of approach myself, but whatever floats your boat, y'know? Richard Pryor, Andrew Dice Clay and many others have made a pretty decent living at it, so that proves that there's a market for that. Some people wanna use sexual innuendo - once again...whatever. If that's the way that you wanna flame, you should be allowed to do so.

However, it is apparent to me that this puppy has run it's course, and it appears to me that things may be starting to get a bit ugly around the edges.

I love this forum to bits. I sincerely feel that it's one of my favorite things with which I've ever had the good fortune to be involved. I love the people who post here - all of you...and greatly appreciate your participation. I would not want to lose or offend any of you in any way, and I deeply apologize if anyone feels as if that has occured. I can assure you that was not the intention at the outset.

Consequently, I think that it's best if I call an end to this contest right now. I hope that there has not been any kind of damage done that has long-standing repercussions, and that perhaps we can resume business as usual. I want to thank you all for laying down some pretty amusing and entertaining threads and posts, and say that I hope that for the most part, everyone has enjoyed most of what has transpired here - I certainly have.

This thread will be used to nominate the person or persons that you think has done the most entertaining flaming. Please restrict your nominations to no more than three people. Only one post per person in this thread, please. Voting will end Thurday at 6 PM EST.

Once again, thank you for playing.

A lot could be said about timing.

I joined this forum just as the contest was beginning,

And although I wish I had more time to get to know everyone, Im not thin skinned. Therefore, speaking for myself, I didnt take any flames personally nor was I offended.

Sometimes its good to vent. However, after scanning the previous threads, Ive learned that the knowledge and talent here has surpassed my expectations.

I dont know what, if anything, I could contribute to this forum, but I will stick around for a while.

As far as my vote-

Dave...

Interesting idea, fun while it lasted, don't say I didn't "warn ya"! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Ahhhh. Decisions. Decisions.

First let me say that none of my views expressed during this contest reflect the views of the management, sponsors, or authors (living or dead) that were quoted in any of my posts...

Furthermore anything I said that was or could conceivably be viewed as offensive, disgusting, derogative, or anything but mildly humorous was ONLY A JOKE!

Although my "handle" brands me a guitplayer, (and it's true I am one), my first music experiences were playing my trusty Crumar DS-1 and I still consider my early keyboard efforts an integral part of my musical personality. So, in spite of any "keyboardists are idiot" type "flames" I may have authored, I really like the darn things...

Finally, I HATE smooth jazz... but thought it would be fun to take the "losing" side in the debate...

Well then...

Ummmmm...

Who to vote for?

Well for sheer volume joegiradi's first lengthy flame was the "best". I think DanSouth made the most sentient posts but trolling up Star Trek brings him a notch down in my book.

(This whole thing missed the cruel hand of Fletcher or alphajerk or even curve dominant... I don't know if the latter two didn't know or didn't care about this contest)...

And there were a couple of others contenders notably: valkyriesound for bringing up "trombone players", (perhaps the "funniest" thread, and Lee Flyer who not only had a great "troll" post title, (Synthesizers are the root of all evil) but who backed it up with a funny rant that started a fairly well responded to thread.

So... my winner is...

dadadobro (otherwise signing as CB), for this little gem...

lick-copping, cop-licking,

noodling melodies in the ear never sticking,

clap a ton of riffs from soulful bluesters in your rock,

who you think you're tricking?

filing your nuts, your G-string unwound

"it's easier to play- who cares about the sound"

Spandex and giant hair,

we KNOW you wish that style was still around.

giggling over humbucker-pickups,

while real G-men pick up honeys in a hum-vee

bathroom exercises for your fing'ring chops

you'd do anything to be on MTV

wheedly wheedly wank it!

grab that plank and spank it!

if Yngwe is too difficult for stealing

play too slow and call it "feeling"

Donny Drummer does the drunken dames,

Bobby Bassist likes em round and mellow

Guitar Johnny loves the under-aged,

gimme a lady who plays a REAL instrument- the cello.

Anyone who can work a cello into a flame... well that's tops in my book!

I nominate rkipp because (s)he actually managed to offend Dave Bryce and Dansouth

I would enjoy the irony of someone winning the contest who actually seemed to disapprove of it. I would also enjoy it even more if rkipps comments were just a ploy to reel us in so that we would be fooled into being offended. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Damn! I was just getting warmed up!

Well this goes to prove what I've suspected all along: keyboard players are such wimps they can't even have a proper flame war! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'd like to add one more point...

I think that it's important that it be noted that rkipp's post is not the reason that I ended the contest. I actually felt that some of it was getting to the point where it was getting ready to turn sincerely nasty, and I really didn't want to be responsible for instigating that.

Maybe I just take this moderator thing too seriously...

I thought the whole game was a fun educational

experience...

I think we all learned that we're nice people

here... Even when we tried to flame each other

with insults it just kinda fizzled out fast...

That's why I moved to sex....sex sells! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

I had WAY too much fun with Dan.. so I'll

nominate him. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

(Though I still think Dave is pretty hot... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif)

These post were fun.. I think Dan and I were

on-line at the same time... they came

out more like a bad chatroom... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/eek.gif

Thanks, guitplayer! It was a pleasure.

And http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/tongue.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/tongue.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/tongue.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/tongue.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/tongue.gif to Frosty, cuz all my stuff's original, NOT cut and pasted or copied.

Special mention to 88 Keys for this snappy comeback:

dadabobro:

PS. Get on the plane and fly over here, you can crash at my pad if you're young and beautiful, and get yourself a real piano, a Boesendorfer Imperial 290 with 97 keys, so you can lose the cheesey "88 Keys" moniker!

-CB

88 Keys

As far as being young and beautiful, I like to think that I am

Unfortunately for you, Im not gay. Maybe you can use the

Extra 9 keys to get out of the closet. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/eek.gif

Hehe! Good one. The comeback is too easy though- Who says I'm in the closet? Check me out at the Queen's Cross, singing "Mein Herr Marquis" two octaves down in a dynamite magenta evening gown! PS. Ever seen the movie "Dune"? Muhahahahah.... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

But I'll have to cast my vote for dansouth, for coming up with flame topics. Can't hold the Star Trek thread against him, because what would keyboard players do on their Saturday nights without Star Trek? Also, he managed to call half the people here "idiot" and "moron" and get off scott-free! Hehehe.

Thanks Dave, and everybody else, for this funny moment.

I have made some personal attack on some people, but, as I said on another thread, It was pure rubbish from my side and didn't mean anything.

"you have to know your enemy to beat him" http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

If someone was hurt, I sincerly apologize to them.

And now, let's proceed to the voting.

I don't need the module, Dan said he don't want it either, and Joe have made some cool posts but I don't think he needs it.

So my vote goes to Valky!

Why? Because she is a she, and we need a women on this forum to look after us.

And do the cooking, babysitting when we are playing keyboard, and dress sexy when we are tired. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Is the war o-over. c-can the k-keyboard players come out n-n-now?

My vote is for Cameron, whose sonnets made me hurt laughing. Besides the nanopiano will go oh so well with his 187 key Bosendorfer Imperial. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

I loved Dansouth's contributions too, but I figured he would have a gear giveaway flame war (he gives away everything) and the fun would start over.

Regards,

Jerry
