AM HEADED FOR TROUBLE???

Recommended Posts

I am purchasing a tank from some guy, also known as a minimoog - original piece of junk in great shape - no oscillator updates - stays in tune just fine, boyz - BUT here's my question...can I really take this on the road???sides weighing a fucking ton, will it let me down at the crucial moment? Or should I just worship along with the other shrines in the studio and cart around a Korg MS2000 and maybe the dinky little prodigy?

No, don't sell me on the Jupiter 8 and the Oberheim. They're different beasts and I love/hate both of them.

Okay - very opinionated response:

It's my favorite of all of my synths. Get it. Keep it.

Gosh Dave, your emoticon button is stuck? : )

Besides folks, Dave has a very hotrodded Minimoog and it's in pretty good shape.

Mini's are like cars, guitars, people, etc.

They're all different, they will all breakdown at some point, etc.

The real question is whether the experience of one that is working correctly outweighs the disadvantages of one that is broken.

I think what these other synth-geeks are trying to say is, why the hell are you asking this question? If you've got an opportunity to buy a Minimoog, you just do it. I can't remember where I read this, whether it was in Keyboard in the last couple months or if it was Dave that just said "I swear that thing has a soul."

It does amaze me that most people that own mini's and are gigging, bring them to every gig. I would think that they'd build their little shrine to Bob Moog and have the Mini there all the time to play perfectly, but if you think about it, that's like putting the Mini in an convalescent hospital. It eventually amounts to the fact that the little beast wants to be brought to gigs, it begs to come along because it needs to be allowed to have a life of its own. Besides, if you don't let the Mini on stage with you maybe it gets jealous and then breaks down in the studio either because it's mad at you or just plain depressed.

Get the Minimoog. Bring it to gigs. Let it live, and it will respond in turn. And if you really feel like you need an MS2000 as a backup.. it's only 800 bucks. And you could always use it to vocode the Mini.

I don't think it was me. I'd have said I KNOW it has a soul.

Ack!

Dave went and got a bigger head!

Steve has a wonderful idea-

Use the analog, but bring something digital for backup.

All the glory with less fear. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

But if you do gig, please.... use a road case or you'll be seeing doctor diaper far more often. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Okay, the big head was cool.. and I know that you can do that with UBB code inserting a picture.

But Dave, where do you get all these new emoticons that there is no mention of anywhere on this site? How the hell do you make them jump up and down like that?!! Is that HTML or what?

okay.. that's umm.. whoa. I don't know what to say.. uhh.. adding a couple of smileys would've been more than enough. Now there's a couple thousand. I don't know whether to say that's cool or dorky or absurd.

I think I dig it though.
