joegerardi
For many of us older prog-rockers, one of the holy grails in synths was Emo's Yamaha GX-1. Someone sent me this site where you can download a copy of the user manual for it. If we can never have the real thing, at least we can have parts of it http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.yamaha.co.jp/product/proaudio/homeenglish/technical/manu_lib/index.htm Setup: Korg Kronos 61, Roland XV-88, Korg Triton-Rack, Motif-Rack, Korg N1r, Alesis QSR, Roland M-GS64 Yamaha KX-88, KX76, Roland Super-JX, E-Mu Longboard 61, Kawai K1II, Kawai K4. Dave Bryce
When I was working at Alesis and we were putting together the Vintage Synths QCard, we were lucky enough to have had Keith lend us the GX-1 for about six weeks so we could sample it. What an awesome toy...definitely the the biggest, heaviest keyboard you ever wanna see. It's a triple manual (!), and the top keyboard uses little Casio-sized mini-keys that modulate the tones when you wiggle them from side to side. It actually has a little auto-accompaniment drum machine built into it - way 70's Yamaha Electone organ sounding. Wanna be really jealous? Erik Norlander, who was running Alesis Synth engineering at the time, actually used it on an album he was doing. Samples from the synth and the drum machine are on the Alesis Vintage Synths QCard. Samples from Emo's modular Moog are on that card as well. I still think it's the best QCard. dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network
