how to map controller's movement to other messages?

hi

i always have problem working in cakewalk

i wanna use my trinity's joystick to control other parameter and record it in cakewalk

but it seemed to record it as MODwheel messages only

other people always say i can map the incoming data to be recorded as any kind of midi controller message

but they never tell me how

i wonder whether you can please tell me?
