popnasci.fi
Next week I'm planning to do my first 5.1 recording with my friends. We have no experience and now I'm asking some help. (Sorry my bad english. I hope you'll understand my point). The band is a quartet and they're playing in a medium-sized hall which is about 15 meters high, 30 m wide and about 50 m long. There is a rising auditorium. We have five AKG 414s and four B&K's omni mics. Our aim is to learn and try different setups. We know some basics about 5.1 recording but we haven't done this kind of recording before. Our idea of 5.1 recording/mixing is to do realistic mix. Personally I don't like the idea of being in the middle of the band. So start point is to keep the band in L+R (and Center) and ambience in RL+RR. We would be very thankful if you could tell us any suggestions of how to place our mics. Thank you! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif
