Veracohr
Scientists used a revolutionary computer program that automatically controlled connections between a set of transistors in order to "breed" an oscillator. The program took matters into it's own hands, stunning the scientists, and created a radio receiver instead. http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99992732 "And then you have these thoughts in the back of your mind like 'Why am I doing this? Chip McDonald
But it just picked a solution that happened by chance. It doesn't display "intelligence", but what it *does* display is the notion that evolution can occure by chance from angles *we can't predict or readily see*. Synthguy
Well, it shows that if we create the proper controlled arena, and let in certain restricted random elements with intelligently pre-thought out rules for possibilities, some interesting things can happen. Experiments like this are undoubtedly laying the groundwork for the first simulations of thought. Yet another devotee to newscientist.com. I love that place. :D This keyboard solo has obviously been tampered with!
Jotown
Raymond Kurzweil, (yes the keyboard guy) has been talking about this for years. His book, "The age of spiritual machines" goes in great detail about nano-computing and self replicating chips. I have no doubt that it's coming. Hopefully not the end of it.
